I am planing on putting ribbon around the edge of the foam core board. Would I have to use royal icing or something edible to glue it? Could I just use glue, or would it be to close to the cake? Thanks for any suggestions.
I use 1/2" double-side tape -- that way you don't see the lines from the glue gun. I've tried so many things to cut the foam core. My latest is the hot craft knife. It's like a heated exacto knife. Works pretty good on the 1/2". An exacto knife works fine on 1/4" foamcoe.
oooohhh.....hot knife sounds like the way to go!!!
But I use an exacto knife cuz thats what I got
Hmmm....where to find a hot knife....?????
I got mine at wally world LOL ... and it was in a set with about a dozen other attachements (craft section). It had a knife attachement..embossing attachments..stamping..etc... it was in a plastic case.. .look near the wood burning tools
I asked about one of those hot knives at Michael's and they looked at me like I was from Mars. I have terrible luck using an exacto to cut foam core. It looks like doo doo when I do do it.
I got heated exacto knife at Michaels. It's in the section with the wood items, with the woodburning sets. I used a coupon and it was every inexpensive and works perfectly!
I use fabric glue (Hobby Lobby fabric section) to attach ribbon to foam boards. I guess it's probably like the glue sticks in most arts & crafts depts.

Thanks! I'll look there tomorrow! I've got coupons burning a hole in my pocket! I also use a glue stick to apply ribbon to the foam core. Just a regular school gluestick.
It's called Creative Hot Knife by Walnut Hollow, My grandaughter got one for herself & me from Michaels. It works so well. I use a low heat glue gun to put my ribbon on the foam core.
I hate the hot knife. I can cut so much faster and less stinkier with a #2 craft knife blade. It takes 2 passes to cut 1/2-inch foamcore, but it still goes a lot faster - and neatly too.
