I just finished up a three tiered cake and was wondering if I am charging to much. It is a 12,10,8 filled with strawberry filling. Buttercream frosting with scroll work and a ribbon on the bottom of each layer.
Assuming these layers are round and not square, the 12-10-8 would give 90 servings, for which I would charge $225 ($2.50 per for BC). If these were square tiers (124 servings), it would be $310. It seems as though you charged about $1.67 (or $1.38 for squares), which is way too little, in my opinion! Does that even cover your materials and electricity?

Hi there, It seems to me you may not have charged enough. What's the price per serving in your area? I charge $2.00 a serving. What do you usually charge per serving? Did you use a chart to know how many servings were in your cake? I use the wilton wedding cake chart to know how many servings and then I charge accordingly.

Yeah I usually go off of the wilton chart. This is a round cake. It was also my first cake that was not for a family or friend. So it was the first cake that i didn't stay at the party.
In the time I've been on CC, whenever I see the question "Did I charge too much?", the answer is usually "no". Whenever I see the question, "did I undercharge?", the answer is usually "yes". So rest assured you are normal and just like the rest of us when we first start pricing.
Yes, I agree this was low.
