I have been asked to do a cake for a bowling league. It is for a celebration for 100-115 people. I can think of a lot of cute ideas, but the scale is kinda throwing me off. I probably have to do some sort of sheet cake, huh? Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

here's an idea for a sheet cake...would work on full size 18x24

ball could be half round sports ball as drawn or a full round ball.

pins are small -- like the candle ones... this done to force the perspective to make them look far away at end of lane.

lane tapers from wide at lower left corner to narrow where pins are to produce the same effect.

frames w/ scores are used on the sides of the cake.

Ok, first off let me say, I am so amazed of the detail of your feedback! I 1000% appreciate it. I LOVED your schematic. I could read the portion about the sides of the cake, but not what you had written on the end. I dont have a pan that size, although I can get one. That would serve upwards of 115 people, right? Thank you again in advance!!

the sides is my scrawl that says what I said about narrowing the lane down and using small pins to force the perspective.
(and now we all know why my 8th grade English teacher called my parents and told them to buy me a typewriter!!)

a 18x24 cake can be made up out of:

4 - 9x13 (then it will actually come out 18x26)

or 2 - 11x18 cakes.

and an 18x24 will serve 96 2x2 size single layer portions.

if you make it a double layer and cut portions to 1x2 (still the same amount of cake per serving due to it being a double layer) -- then you would get 192 servings.

by adjusting serving size you can get different yields.

example

18x24 single layer w/ 1.5x2 servings (just a scooch smaller) would be 144 servings

--------

and here it is redrawn.

remember the frames continue all the way around the sides of the cake.

Doug, your idea is just awesome

Hope you don't mind if I save this idea to use in the future.
I just found online an idea for a bowling ball cake similar to yours
But on a smaller scale just yesterday. I think this is more for a
child's birthday party, it's still a great idea.

Here's the link if anyone is interested
