I know this won't seem like such a big deal to some, but to me it is a big step, I worked my tush off to design my display for the local Wedding and Special Events show . Granted these were all "dummy cakes" the work was still as hard.
I want to thank everyone on CC for their inspirations and helpful advice on the sample ideas.
The 4 tier wedding cake is covered with Ivory fondant and silk roses, the other 3 tier wedding cake is iced with buttercream and detailed with gumpaste flowers. (this one I did the morning of the show). Also shown are a stack of books for the "graduation" set, then a small anniversary, I also did a FBCT of a buck for a grooms cake iced in chocolate buttercream. That was a BIG surprise to most of the brides to be.
Just thought I would share with you one of my better days and to tell each and everyone who posts all of this awesome advice, and even your disasters, that I learned so much.
Thanks again for looking,

Great display. Hope you get a lot of orders!
Great work! How did you make out? How many people attended and did you receive any calls?
Just interested in how the bridal shows bring in business..
Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments. I really don't like to toot my own horn, but around here (VT) no one else will.
Kettlevalleygirl: being this is a pretty small area, we had about 31 actual brides sign up, and probably another 50-75 other folks attend. I know that I have at least 3 weddings booked from the show, (those three are my nieces, yup 3 all getting married within 1 year first one in May) I am hoping that this does give me a shot in the arm a little. I did get quite a few WOW's!!! on the cakes and the portfolio I brought.
There really aren't many bakers around here, and it looks promising. I'll let you know within the next few weeks for sure.
Good for you..
I have a wedding in May, and one June, very simple style cakes...thank goodness, because we actually don't live in our home full time. We have a city condo, that I live in during the week. When I have a cake, I will have to go home for the week before to get ready.
My daughter has a few friends that are getting married, so I may get a few cakes out of that.
Our home town is pretty small, and there is a wedding show there every year, and I am thinking of going into that eventually. Although there are two other major decorators in town. But, because it is a growing community, I think I may not have to worry about keeping busy...
You should attend the shows is my opinion! I know that feeling of having 2 other decorators in town, but, there is room and they can MOVE over.
I have seen your work and you are very good. I think my favorite is your daughters 20th with the roses. I STILL can't do roses to save my life, I just keep trying.
If your daughter has friends that are going to get married, thats all the more practice, and build your portfolio for when you do finally do the show. I was really glad I did it.
Roses are driving me crazy , I want to take another buttercream course just to practice them!!
I am a lefty, which drives some instructors crazy.....
But I will plug along, and I also know that the regular people think they are pretty good anyway, even though, they may look like cabbages!!
Congratulations on your first show!
