My DH just brought home a gallon bag full of shelled pecans that he got at a church fundraiser and I need to know how to store them. Will they lose their flavor if I just put them in freezer bags and put them in the freezer...or is it better to store them in the frig? Thanks in advance...Linda

PS...I'M SO GLAD CC IS BACK UP!!!

Definitely freeze. Don't store in the frig. If you have a vacuum sealer, they'll last up to year.

They may even last longer than a year in the freezer- especially if you are going to bake with them rather than eat them plain. (My aunt grows them, and we always have them around.)

speaking from experience, yep, they do last longer than a year in the freezer.

Yep, I have some in my freezer now over a year old and they are fine. After the've been there for a while, you may want to taste one because they can eventually begin to get a little bitter, but I've found that doesn't seem to happen for about 1 1/2 years.

Well, I guess I can admit that I've used pecans that had been frozen for THREE years! But, I wasn't going to advise anyone else to do that. icon_smile.gif
