How Do I Make A Strawberry Shortcake Flavored Cake?
Decorating By rhesp1212 Updated 23 Aug 2007 , 6:20pm by RRGibson
I have a request for this for this weekend. I figured I could use a yellow cake and make it like a pound cake. But, typically strawberry shortcake is pretty soupy (the strawberries and liquid).....how could I do that in a filling so it doesn't just all soak into the cake??
any ideas of how to make this cake really taste like strawberry shortcake would be great!! THANKS!!
Valerie
I would use a whipped cream buttercream or frosting. And for the filling their is a strawberry Cream Filling in the recipes that you can use. I suggest using the frozen strawberrys in syrup instead of fresh unless their, really, really, sweet otherwise you dont get enough strawberry flavor from it. It also wont hurt to add strawberry jam to the recipe and if you have to, adjust the amount of gelatin so its not soupy. This should give you the desired flavor without the soupyness.
How about using the strawberry glaze and cutting fresh strawberries on top of it? Sounds yummy to me. Then ice with a whipped icing? HTH
That sounds good I was just sitting here wondering how I could make a banana split cake.
Could you maybe inject a little strawberry jello into the cake
Thanks for all the ideas, I truly appreciate it! I hate it when I commit to a cake and then scramble to figure out how the heck I'm going to do it!!! LOL!!
anyone have a good whipped icing recipe?? They don't want anything real sweet on this particular cake, so buttercream is out. I honestly haven't used anything other than buttercream and choc. buttercream icing. I love working with it so much!
Thanks everyone!

This doesnt crust but it is fine for under fondant:
Whip one pint of whipping cream with 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon of vanilla and 1 box of white chocolate instant pudding.
I made a cake for my daughter's birthday that tasted like strawberry shortcake. My favorite thing about it was vanilla meringue disks in the center layer of the tiers. I used fresh sliced strawberries neslted in buttercream for the filling in the other layers and strawberry simple syrup to moisten the layers and up the flavor.
The whipped cream frosting would taste wonderful (10 year olds like all the sugar they can get so I went with regular buttercream and actually put powdered strawberry jello mix in it! It was pink and actually tasted pretty good!)
Good luck!
Rich's bettercream is sold at GFS and Sam's club. It comes in a carton like heavy whipping cream. It is made for whipped icing. You don't have to add anything to it. It not too sweet!
What I use as strawberry shortcake is white cake with a strawberry cream cheese filling with strawberries cut up in it. Then I do SMBC for the frosting, sometimes I put a little strawberry puree in the frosting as well, makes it taste just like strawberry ice cream! I also use the frozen strawberries as someone else mentioned, they are sweeter. Not your traditional shortcake but people like it.
