How do you keep the cake circle from sticking when you have a tiered (stacked) cake?

Is there a method for keeping the cake circle from sticking? Could I sprinkle a little confectioner sugar before stacking? Or is this normal?

Thank you.

Yes, it sticks. Confectioner's sugar will help, but probably not entirely eliminate it.

I let the lower tier crust, and then put a parchment circle (the same size as the tier that is going on top) on the top of the lower tier. That seems to keep the icing from sticking, but may only work if you use a crusting-type icing.

I know some people sprinkle confectioner's sugar or shredded coconut before stacking. I haven't tried these, though.

A parchment paper circle with a tiny sprinkling of coconut has worked well. It doesn't totally eliminate the sticking, but, in my experience, it has drastically reduced the problem.

I sprinkle with powdered sugar before putting the top layer on. I'm a little leery about using coconut because there are so many allergy problems out there.
