Hello cake nuts...
I recently read a how-to on doing floodwork using piping gel and they suggested doing it on wax paper and freezing it for easy application to the cake afterwards......
will the piping gel run if I place it on the sides of the cake?
Good question! Do the instructions tell you to add water or other liquid to the piping gel? If so, that might cuase it to run if put on the side of a cake BUT if not then you should be safe because piping gel remains rather tacky. Maybe someone else has more knowledge on this topic!
1) i wouldn't use piping gel on the side of a cake; the risk of running seems very high to me. unless of course it's very thin, or was held in place by piping little buttercream frames, like a stained glass effect.
2) did this little instructional tell you how to get the gel off the wax paper after freezing? i would be concerned that it wouldn't come off cleanly and be dried-out and tacky. if you try it, please let me know how it turns out.
