Help! To Many Shades Of Pink, Take A Look At The Pic...
Decorating By SLK Updated 3 Jun 2007 , 3:58pm by NickyA
I've got this pillow cake for tomorrow. Each layer on it's own looks good, but when they are all together the shades of pink arn't working - or at least I don't think they do.
The bottom layer was light pink and silver so I painted the pink a darker shade so it would blend better with the top cake, but now the middle one stands out to me.
How do the colors look together? Please be brutal and honest!

I think it looks great! Alot of times, we keep messing with the cake when we should just leave it alone! It looks really good. Great job!

I think the middle layer matches the crown on the top. But if you want to incorporate the darker pink on to the middle layer you could maybe paint the flowers the same color, but I think it looks fine.
Frankly SLK...I think it looks great....we are our own worse critics!!!! If color is all you are worried about...DON'T! The colors are great and personally....the design is AWESOME!! Great job!!! I'm sure they will love it!!!!

I totally agree! Good job!
That's what happens when we work on our own cakes and stare at them too long LOL!!.....but I can assure you that this cake is totally cute! I love the pinks! Very feminine.
It looks good the way it is. Since we keep looking at our cake again n again we always feel theres something wrong. Thats y i call my neighbour to look at it
Honestly, I wouldn't touch it. It looks great and we are always our worst critics. That's why you have CC LOL. Unless they specified specifics about the colors, I would just leave it alone. Colors do not have to match to the letter and your designs compliment each other. If they were all the same color, the cake would be boring....well, to me. Just my opinion. I think you did a great job on it. I couldn't do it and haven't attempted it either...inching my way to it. Once again, great job.
I love it, but if you wanted to do anything, maybe paint the middle dot of the flowers with the darker pink to blend that in the the other pinks?
Leave it
I am being honest when I tell you that your cake is Beautiful. Tommorrow you will see it differently.
i agree, sometimes a pink frenzy is exactly what was meant to be. i mean look at the grad cake i just did lol. all blue. every design on it was requested and as were the colors (school colors)
If you want colours from different tiers to sit well together it's a good idea to include elements of one colour on all tiers, so I agree with the suggestion that you could colour the flowers on the baby pink tier the kind of raspberry pink you have on the bottom tier. If you're making a cake from one colour only one way of getting round the problem is using the same colour but in different strengths on the varying tiers.
It does look fine though, I love the bottom cushion - looks very squashy. Cake decorating, a with any art, is always a learning experience and we all learn something new each time. One thing you can be sure of is that the recpient won't notice any of the things we torture ourselves with!
I agree with everyone else... Looks Great!!!!! I too believe the middle
pillow goes well with the crown.
now I know why I love cc!
Thank you all for making me feel better about the colors. We can really make ourselves nuts can't we.
Many thanks again!!!!!
