I was just reading a posting from a girl named cake_freak with a super adorable penguin icon and realized that it doesn't seem like theres that many young cake decoraters out there. So I was thinking we should all have like cool cake conversations lol, so if you are between 13 and 25 you should write something on here. I'm 19 and I started decorating cakes when I turned 17. My first cake was for my 17th birthday and I taught myself how to do it completely. I've only taken one wilton class, and I work at a cake place now and my boss has taught me alot about how to do cakes. She teaches classes and they are way more awesome than wiltons. But really I taught myself all the basics. I love decorating cakes soo much and hopefully I'm gonna have a cake decorating/candy making business started soon. But I love hearing about young decoraters like myself and realizing that I'm not the only one out there, cause sometimes you feel like the only kid out there decorating, and then sometimes no one takes you seriously and its sad. But decorating cakes is sooo much fun. Sometime when I have time I'll try to upload some of my cake pictures. But yeah I cant wait to hear from you all and see what everyone else is decorating and see some pictures and talk with other young cake lovers like myself. icon_biggrin.gif

I think that is a nice idea, and we all seem to feel comfortable within our own age group. But don't rule people out because of their age, remember they also have experience and have stored up lots of ideas and tips they are willing to share with the younger generation. I started doing cakes when I was 19 years old, you know who I learned from? Older decorators. icon_smile.gif

I'm 25, so I guess I still fit into the 'Young' category... YAY! I've been decorating for about a year. I tried teaching myself and it did not go so well, so I signed up for the Wilton classes and fell in love. I try to do as many cakes as I can, but we're so sick of cake that I don't get to practice as much as I'd like. Who'da thought one could get Sick of cake...

I am way beyond young, but I just wanted to tell you that you should be so proud of your work! I wish that I knew a hobby like this at such a young age--maybe I would be a professional by now. Keep it up and good luck to you! HAPPY DECORATING!!

BTW--in my Wilton class, there was a 14-year old boy taking class with his mom and I thought that was the coolest thing ever! Good Luck!

HEY!! I'm 27, don't I still count as a young person!

Just kidding, I know I am getting old. Coming down the road to "thirtyville". icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

I am feeling silly this morning. Just want to give a word of encouragement to all the "young" people out there. I started decorating at 22 but baked all through my teens. If you have found what you love be true to it, enjoy it and learn all you can. There is a lot of us "older" people on the site who are happy to share! icon_wink.gificon_biggrin.gif

I'm probably one of the "babies" here. Only 15 ...=]

I always thoughy I was kinda weird being on one of these sites where most of the people are the age of my mother. At least now I know that there are people that are in this age group.

I haven't been able to decorate much. Too much school work, so I just bake and eat. HEHEHEHE. Only just been able to start decorating and am learning lots from just being here on CC.

One last thing, how may of us young decorators are guys? Whenever I tell my friends I'm on CC, they say I'm looking at cake porn...

I was wondering how many young people there are on here. I'm 20 and I've been decorating since I was a kid, but I'm still not very good. I'm taking the Wilton classes now. I love decorating and I'm hoping to get serious about it and start selling them. I will agree with ShirleyW, when she says that we can learn from those older than us. I'd love to have a mentor like that! It'd be amazing!

I've been teaching my 16 yr old cousin to decorate and a few months ago she took best in the teen division at a cake show!!! She and I were both so excited! I keep telling her to check out cc but she's very, very busy so I'm not sure if she has had time. Just thought I'd throw this in to let you young ones know you're not the only young ones out there decorating!!
Happy Decorating!

I just signed up an account yesterday for my 12 y/o DS. He told me this morning he's on a mission to make the coolest cake on CC icon_biggrin.gif

He spent most of the day yesterday looking for tank cakes (army tanks) on CC and other places on the internet. thumbs_up.gif

Here's a link to his first cake (made a year ago) http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=52790

I'm 23 years old. Just took the Wilton courses last fall. I always wanted to learn how to decorate...and had nowhere to go.

I love it so much. I love to experience.

Now only if my husband would buy me a nice kitchen aid mixer...my life would be complete icon_smile.gif ha ha.

I'm 40... am I the same age as your mother? icon_lol.gif

Although I have been baking since I was 14, I have only been decorating for less than 6 months. So can I still be considered young when it comes to cake decorating? icon_biggrin.gif

I am 25 and just started decorating a couple of months ago. It's something I've been interested in for a while, but didn't have time or money being a college student. icon_smile.gif I have baked for a while, but didn't do much decorating. I decorated my first cake (which is posted in my pics) for Mother's Day. My next project is for Father's Day. My dad is a New York Yankees fan so I've been looking at a lot of pictures for ideas. I've decided on a Yankees hat on top of a sheet cake done in blue pin stripes like the jersey.

I enjoy baking and decorating so much. I wish I had more opportunities to practice, but one family can only eat so much cake! It's nice to know there are others out there around my age that enjoy this also. But I've also enjoyed and learned a lot by reading posts by the more "seasoned" cake decorators! Thanks to everyone for sharing their knowledge, hints, tips, etc.

Well - I guess I dont' fit into the 'young' category (27) LOL But I just wanted to lend you all some encouragement. I've been decorating (mainly for nieces/nephews birthdays) since I was about 13/14. In fact some of the pics in my gallery are some of my first cakes. The 3D Barn is one of my favs and I did that for my nephew's 5th or 6th birthday - he'll be 17 in a few days!

I've not yet taken a class yet either - but it was one of my gifts for Mother's Day - so I plan to sign up in June or July.

I haven't taken any classes either. Everything I've learned I've either read or self-taught. But I would love to take a class once I graduate college in August. I've got to do some checking in to what is offered around here. Wilton's is the only one I know for sure that is offered.
