I am making several 9 inch round cakes to look like lollipops for my nieces first birthday.
I am planning on using tinted piping gel to outline the design on the cakes and then fill in to give a shiny effect. Do i have to outline the piping gel areas in black or can i use the same color as the fill-in?
It seems on most of the pics the piping gel areas are always outlined in black.
Thanks
Jeanie

you can outline in black, clear, or the color you are filling in with. It is totally up to you! have fun!

You can outline in whatever color you choose...I think most are black because they're trying to achieve the stained glass look in which the leading is almost always black.

Another way to get that shiny look is with run in sugar.

Take 1 cup powdered sugar, 1 tblsp light corn syrup and add just enough water to make it flow a little bit but not too much. It dries super shiny and super smooth and tastes much nicer than gel. Mine are always outlined in black icing as you need a 'solid' frame in which to put the run-in sugar however you could use whatever colour you would use for the run-in as well.
