Sorry if this is a repeat, I did one post and it never showed up. I am making a square cake to look like a wrapped gift. I have done this before but had a minor problem. Should I make the ribbon and bow from fondant or gum paste when placing it directly on buttercream? I do not want it to get soft as I will make this a day ahead of time. I know that gum paste will get firmer but does it make a better bow? Thanks for all the advice ya'll give on this site. I have been looking for a while now and have decided to start posting. icon_biggrin.gif

I prefer to make the ribbon out of fondant (since it will be eaten) and the bow out of gumpaste. I would never make a bow out of straight fondant.

Ditto what Diane said.
