I guess there were some posts about this topic before but I couldn't find them where. I am going to decorate the cake with flying butterflies. Do I need to cover the wire with some kind of tape/something to prevent the wire cut the cake or move around???? Thank you.

straws..little stirring straws (like those little red ones) for single wires, larger for more. icon_smile.gif

How do you make the wire stay still? I think the wire is way to thin. Do you think the wire tape instead of straw will work??? Sorry to many questions icon_redface.gif Thank you so much for the reply.

You can use plastic wrap around the wire first if you are placing it into a drinking straw (I can't imagine getting a wrapped wire into a stirrer straw but if you can then more power to ya lol). Wire tape is fine but your finished item will still need to go into a straw; wire tape is not food safe! I can't recall who it was but someone fills their straw with something first...possibly royal icing...?

I put a little ball of fondant in the straw if using drinking straws.. but I usually use coffee or cocktail stirrer straws they fit up to 18 gauge floral wire perfectly.

Here's a great post from Cakepro on the topic...just stumbled across it and figured it would be very relevant to post here icon_smile.gif http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-632290.html

Thanks for the information! What a great post. It never occured to me that there might be lead in floral wire. I'll make sure to use the straws.
