I guess there were some posts about this topic before but I couldn't find them where. I am going to decorate the cake with flying butterflies. Do I need to cover the wire with some kind of tape/something to prevent the wire cut the cake or move around???? Thank you.
straws..little stirring straws (like those little red ones) for single wires, larger for more.
How do you make the wire stay still? I think the wire is way to thin. Do you think the wire tape instead of straw will work??? Sorry to many questions Thank you so much for the reply.
You can use plastic wrap around the wire first if you are placing it into a drinking straw (I can't imagine getting a wrapped wire into a stirrer straw but if you can then more power to ya lol). Wire tape is fine but your finished item will still need to go into a straw; wire tape is not food safe! I can't recall who it was but someone fills their straw with something first...possibly royal icing...?
I put a little ball of fondant in the straw if using drinking straws.. but I usually use coffee or cocktail stirrer straws they fit up to 18 gauge floral wire perfectly.
Here's a great post from Cakepro on the topic...just stumbled across it and figured it would be very relevant to post here http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-632290.html
Thanks for the information! What a great post. It never occured to me that there might be lead in floral wire. I'll make sure to use the straws.
