Hello, I'm doing a baby shower cake with a forest theme and I need to make the following 3D fondant/gumpaste figures:

- bambi-like deer (one standing, one laying)
- squirrel
- birds (light enough to put on floral wire like they're flying overhead)
- grass patch with blades of grass (preferably fondant, don't really wanna do the coconut thing)

I'm really new at making 3D fondant figures and I can't seem to find any cakes with these things or tutorials or instructions how to do any of these online. Any cake pics, advice or point in the right direction is much appreciated!

Thanks!

I have been hunting for you, no luck so far.
Here's Aine2's video on making a dog...

wow thanks so much for doing some research! those links will help give me some engineering ideas, i did come across that last one (the deer modeling) as well but just wasn't sure if i should use sticks for the structure since i'm trying to make everything edible, even though no one will probably eat the figures unless it's a dare lol. I suppose i could use some thick spaghetti?

another idea i have is try to mold the figures out of rice krispy treats and cover/detail with fondant, although that might be more difficult than just using fondant, but it would be lighter weight, hmm. just not sure if i am capable of making those figures look decent with rice krispies hehe. anyway i'm going to attempt SOMETHING this evening so we'll see how it turns out!

OK... Not a tutorial, but a really cute cake(actually 2) by freubelmuiseje... Bambi themed. If it's the style you are looking for, maybe you could P.M. her and ask for instructions/advice? I don't know.... just a thought. HTH!

btw i like the way that grass looks in the deer molding tutorial, http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_3X1xYXZwmeo/SA0MZ0AUY7I/AAAAAAAAAbY/3UZ8jSkEeQo/s1600/Tim30CakeGrass.JPG

guess they used the Wilton's grass tip for that, i may copy that if i can get it to stand up like that or even a little more so. oooh green meringue for grass? that's an option.
