OK, I'm stuck. I'm trying to make a 3-D roller skate for my son's birthday. I baked two loaf cakes, and carved one to be the lower (shoe) part of the cake. On top of the back half, I placed another block of cake to be the upper (boot) section. It ended up being about 8 inches tall. Used three bubble straws to provide support. Iced everything in buttercream, and then smoothed it out. The idea was to let it settle over night before covering it with fondant tomorrow. Well, not 15 minutes later the upper boot section started falling away from the lower (backwards of course!) icon_sad.gif . I put icing between the layers, but....

Any suggestions/ideas? Otherwise I'm going to resort to a rice krispie treat skate on a cake "floor". icon_confused.gif

I put dowels down the boot part into the lower layer. I thought about putting another one in horizontally, from back to front but by then it was too late!

When I did the sneaker, used a sheet cake cut out a shoe pattern and with the nest layer took a little off the front toe area, then took a little more off and stacked 2 more layers to form ankle part. Board and dowels inbetween 2 layers then Kabob stick right through it all into the board. (Foil covered foam board). Didn't go anywhere. Chilled for 1 hour cover in fondant.
