Do any of you out there have any tips on how to make this type of cake? I have seen many of them on this site and would like to make one this weekend. Any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Something else you could do for the cheese is to use orange Airheads. Just lay them around the edges inbetween the top bun and the hamburger patty layer. You'll just need to pull the Airheads out before the cut the cake because they don't cut very well.

I think I have seen some of these cakes in the gallery using round pans. I would think that half the sports ball pan would work for the top bun of the burger. icon_smile.gif

Hello

I have made both the 3D one, using rounds and a bowl; and the sort of flat burger using the Wilton pan (see the photo galery)
The Woman's Day link provided by cupcake55 gives a good description of the process to make the 3D cake; (keep in mind that this is a lot of cake, it is very high & will not be easy to cut. )
When I made it, I used fruit rollups for the lettuce and cheese. I just spread icing on them (green for lettuce & yellow-orange for the cheese & then placed them so they come past the edges of the 'burgers'. For the tomatoes slices, I used round tea biscuits covered with red icing.
For the crumbs around the 'burgers' I used crushed chocolate wafers.
Overall, not difficult to do, but everyone is always very impressed.
Can't wait to see photos of your completed burger; Have fun
Ciao

When I did one, I was making it for a crowd so I made 2 10" vanilla layers for the buns and a 10" choc layer for the burger. With the cake for the top bun, I baked it at the regular 350 degrees and didn't level it or press it down when it was done so I would have the hump. I trimmed off the edge so it had a nice round effect.

I left the burger unfrosted b/c the texture looked like a burger. The frosting for the top and bottom was just a very very lightly colored bc. My friend said I should have just used peanut butter b/c that was the color it was close to.

I used fondant to make the lettuce, cheese and tomato. The french fries are cake as well. It was fairly easy to make but it was nice when I was assembling it to have my friend there to be my second pair of hands.

It got rave reviews at my nephew's birthday party. The party was at a local kids entertainment venue and even the staff of the place were taking pictures of it.
