My sister's birthday is next Thursday and I decided to do a her a bacon cheeseburger cake. I've never done a hamburger cake before, so any advice would be helpful.

Also, I'll probably be doing this for my final Wilton course III cake (my class ends on Wednesday, her b-day is Thursday). The instructor said we have to have some height to it (re: we have to stack or tier it), can I do this with a hamburger cake?

THANKS!!!!!!!!

I've never made a hamburger cake, but if you do a gallery search for 'hamburger' I'm sure you'll get plenty of inspiration!

As for the stacked element, maybe you could make the bottom tier like a table, maybe covered with fondant to look like a table cloth, then put the hamburger on top?

be sure to post pictures, whatever you do!

that's a good idea. I hadn't thought of making the bottom layer the table. But instead of the table I can make it the plate. THANKS!

would it count if the stacked cake was one tier was the bun, the middle tier the hamburger itself and the top tier the other bun?

I love the idea of doing the bottom to look like a table too!

Please post a photo when you are done! I love these kinds of cakes!

The more I think of this, the more I get excited (although, I should probably be working icon_wink.gif

Anyway, since it's going to be a smaller cake, I think I'll just make two 8-inch cakes (for the bottom bun and the meat) and half the ball/dome for the top bun. Then I'll try to do the cheese, bacon, tomato and lettuce with MMF. I'll have to practice all of this Saturday.

Which leads me to another question, if I cut out all the "toppings" tomorrow night and store them air tight for Wednesday, will it last (re: not get hard)? Or would it be best just to do them Wednesday?

You can lay them out between layers of Press and Seal wrap and they will stay soft for a good couple of days. This is what our instructor had us do for the small flower decorations on our Course III cakes. It worked great.

Hi,

I think, for the cakes, it would be best to make two 8-inch for your two buns, and a 9-inch for the pattie. It looks more realistic. For the top bun, just be sure to leave the dome that usually comes when you bake it. I think I put in a bit more batter in the top bun when I made one.

I have made many of this type of cake. You will find great instructions on the Woman's Day web site.I use yellow chocolate for the cheese.white for the onion, red for the catsup...well you get the idea.Use raw sunflower for the "sesame seeds" as they will be the correct size.I do everything in tinted snow-white buttercream.Let it set and it will forn a crust.I have one posted here in the food cakes.I go to McDonald and ask for some wrappers..they are always great to give them to me.Then place your cake on top and it looks like it just came out of the wrapper. It's a fun cake to do.

theres a recipe in the recipe forum for "Hamburger cake"....and it tells you how to do everything...another great tool is if you have kids that have play food, you can use the lettuce and tomatoes to make impressions on your fondant and make them look REALLY realistic!!!

Thank you so much!!!! I am so excited about this cake - (although it probably doesn't help that I'm on WW and haven't had a good bacon cheeseburger in a month!)
