What’s the secret to making the coolest children’s cake around? Monsters and aliens, of course! Strike the right balance between gross and cute with gumpaste figures and hand piping, and you’re sure to delight the children in your life.
4 tiers of Monsterness for Emma’s first birthday party. 10, 8, 6 and 4″ tiers of Sulley, Mike Wazowski, Randall the baddy and baby Boo. Nobody told me that grass tipping a ten inch tier would take three hours and be quite so agonizing.

B-day cake for my daughter’s tenth birthday. Party was held at Chunky’s Cinema with a Monsters Vs. Aliens movie theme. Cake consisted of two layers of chocolate cake filled with oreo cookies and cream mousseline, one layer of strawberry cake w/mousseline dream buttercream, and one layer of vanilla wasc with oreo cookies mousseline. Cake was covered in modeling chocolate and eye was handpainted on fondant. Fun cake to make!
My nephew wanted an alien cake for his birthday and this is what I came up with. The alien that is being crushed by the top tier was meant to be crushed by the UFO but I didn’t have the room so I improvised….he’ll think it’s cool. The clear part is a plastic cup and the UFO is rice crispy treats covered in MMF.
Made this one for a flickr competition. All decorations are edible (fondant and gumpaste)
this was my own birthday cake I made it for myself (I collect aliens, i’m weird i know)the cake is made with the wilton ball cake mold. It is covered with marshmellow fondant. I used the inspiration of many fabulous other cakes on this website. The crators are created by making fondant snakes formed in a circles underneath, then once the top layer of fondant is ontop I pushed my knuckle into the middle of those cirlces creating the major crators. The smaller crators are just formed by me pressing my knuckle into the fondant. The characters are made with fondant as well. Any other questions just post!
