Terracotta Pot Of Roses
This cake was made for a friend of mine who loves marzipan, and does not like fondant. That meant that the roses could not be made very delicate, and they became quite heavy, and began to bend. Overall I was happy although later a strange bulge suddenly began to appear on one side, although I had dowelled the cake well! I tried to make the pot look like a handmade terracotta pot, with the pinched, fluted edge like we get here in India... Maybe succeeded too well... it looks very handmade and far from perfect!

Soccer Ball Cake For A Little Boy
This is a "spur of the moment " cake I did yesterday for a little friend of mine. He was very disappointed when last month, I could not do his birthday cake, as I had other commitments. I have another cake due today, so mixed a little extra batter to surprise him. No pan, just used a steel mixing bowl. The figure is almond marzipan, the cake devil's food, the icing chocolate fudge and buttercream. Hat's off to all of you who do stars! This was a tiny cake, and yet I got so tired.

Jungle Cake
Hi, This is a cake I made for a little friend yesterday. She came over to my house last week and said, "Aunty Karen I want to discuss my cake" . She's just five, but knew exactly what animals she wanted and that she wanted her brother and herself on the cake. All figures are fondant with a little tylose powder added. Details like eyes, stripes on bees and spots on ladybirds are royal. A Big Thank You to Dods. Your cake was an inspiration. Karen

Thank You Teacher
My daughter wanted a blue ribbon cake for her teacher. She described it to me in extreme detail. Later I was looking through the galleries, and found a similar one by my friend Claudine1976. Thanks Claudia for the tips and the vote of confidence. The cake is devils food, fudge icing, buttercream. Ruffles are fondant, plaque is fondant with a little tylose added. Edging is gold luster dust with vodka. Thanks for looking.

My first attempt at CCCs. Thanks to Kiddiekakes for all the inspiration, tips and advice. This is one of three I did for an early Christmas Party at my daughter's school. 120 cupcakes in all, to create Santa, a Christmas Tree and a Christmas Wreath. Devil's Food cake, Chocolate fudge icing, butter icing and fondant for snowflakes and the star.

Purple-Wedding-Cake-Large-File.jpg
First of all, the inspiration for this cake, was Lindy Smith's "Indian Wedding Cake" I wrote to her, and let her know that I was going to try it. She sent me a very encouraging reply. But I had a hard time with the dark colours. In the photos it looks really patchy. In reality it was OK, and the purple was a rich regal colour. The topper is made of pressed sugar with a royal icing net. The bride and groom wrote messages to each other and I sealed them in the little box. The idea for the messages came from emma from emmascakes. I wrote to her too and she said, "Go for it!" Thanks for looking. Karen Oh, the cake is rich fruit cake, marzipan, and then fondant.

Basket Of Flowers
This is a Devil's Food Cake, with chocolate fudge icing. Butter-cream for basket, fondant for flowers, leaves and butterfly. Thanks first to KHalstead for all her help. The client suddenly advanced the pick-up time for this one by a day, so I was really rushed. It's not as neat as I would have liked. This is the first cake of three orderd for a Dutch-Indian wedding. Thanks for looking. Karen P.S. There was no time for the butterfly to dry... the cotton wads are still propping up the wings.

This is a cake I made today for a fund-raiser at my daughter's school. It is the most brightly colored cake I have ever made! But she loved it, sat by me, helping me mix colours. It had to match a picture provided. All I can say, is it is eye-catching.... Hope it makes some money for the school!

Golden Wedding Cake
This is a heavy fruit cake, with marzipan, and fondant. The inspiration was a cake from Kerry Vincent's "Romantic Wedding Cakes". But, as this was a Golden Wedding, I adapted it a bit, to introduce the gold. I used realistic looking fondant roses too, instead of the "satin roses". It was hard work but so rewarding! I was very pleased with it.

Black Board
This was a Thank-You cake for my daughter's school teacher, at the end of the school year. Black Icing is Cooked Chocolate Icing, Chalk and Duster is homemade fondant, and the rest is buttercream. The cake is a 2 tier Devil's Food Cake made from scratch. Unfortunately, we have been having torrential rains and flooding here, and the weather is really humid. Hence ... cracks in the black icing which refused to set hard. My daughter was really happy with it.
