Gingerbread Cake
This was the cake I made for the Chemistry Club’s Christmas potluck. It is gingerbread cake with vanilla bean buttercream. I made simple gingerbread cookie houses to go around the cake and then made a 3D gingerbread cookie house for the topper. I used a snowflake cutter/plunger set to make snowflakes that I dusted with some luster dust and then placed them around the cake as well. Simple design but I really liked it as did the students :-)

Bow Hunter's Birthday Cake
This is a 40th birthday cake for a friend of my brother. He is a bow hunter so his wife requested a hunting themed cake. She had no real vision for the design so it was left in my hands. The bottom tier I did in (hunter’s) orange and then drew a hunting silhouette with edible marker. The second tier I made to look like a tree stump following a tutorial by Zoe’s Fancy Cakes for the bark. As the topper, I made a set of deer antlers from modeling chocolate and then painted them with gel paste. I wanted to have an arrow in the cake and came up with the idea to make it look as though it was shot through a piece of paper with Happy Birthday on it. I tore the edges to make it look a bit weathered and the arrow is modeled after those the birthday boy uses. I found out later on that the birthday boy refused to cut the cake at his party. Lol

Halloween Cauldron Cake
Halloween cauldron cake made for the Chem Club's Halloween party. The cake was midnight pumpkin layer cake which was really tasty! The skulls were chocolate airbrushed with silver, black and pearl. The bones are purchased candy bones and the bubbles are gumballs. The eyeballs, logs and flames are all fondant. Test tubes hidden in the cake allowed for dry ice to be added along with water to get the smoking/steam effect. Rolkem lumo gel was painted on some of the gumballs to make them glow under UV light. Unfortunately we didn't get a great picture of that. It was a big hit with the students :-)

Glow Bowling Birthday Cake
This cake was a last minute order so it had to come together quickly. The bowling pins and stars are sugar cookies covered with fondant. The bowling ball is made with a 3.5" hemisphere pan, covered in 50/50 fondant/modeling chocolate mixture and airbrushed with Rolkem lump gel. The woodgrain was achieved by painting the fondant with gel paste and vodka.

Kfc Bucket Of Chicken Cake
I made this cake for a friend's 50th birthday. He enjoys KFC and Tim Horton's coffee so the initial design included both and I was going to make them actual size. Unfortunately his party was canceled so the cake was scaled back for just a small family get together. Instead of a big bucket of chicken and a Tim's coffee I went with a smaller bucket from their menu which I think is meant for two people? The bucket is cream cheese pound cake with vanilla buttercream. The pieces of chicken are cake pop mixture coated in chocolate, then icing and crushed cornflakes. The bone part of the chicken legs are Cadbury fingers.

Drip Birthday Cake
Gluten free vanilla birthday cake for Lindsay. She is attending St Francois Xavier University where she plays rugby so her mom wanted those elements on the cake. The university is often referred to as simply "X" is why the "X" on top. She liked the look and colors of a drip cake image I had sent her is why I went that route for the cake. She was thrilled with it :-)

Buttercream Rosette Baby Shower Cake
A rosette baby shower cake and cupcakes for a baby shower today. I'm not a fan of the rosette cakes (sorry to those of you who like them) but it's what they wanted and it turned out OK. Not happy with my cupcakes but I didn't feel like scraping off the icing and piping them again. The lady throwing the baby shower loved everything and that is what matters.

Sugar Skull Wedding Cake
A very nontraditional wedding cake. The couple was after my own heart when they asked me to do a sugar skull :-) They provided me with a photo of a sugar skull and the colors they wanted so the design is not my own creation other than a bit of improvisation with it such as adding the blue metallic sugar pearls. I started with the diamond and really wasn't sure about their color choice but it all came together and with the addition of the roses I was sold on it! I hope you like him too.

Banana Choco Hazelnut Cake
I made this cake to celebrate the September birthdays at work. It is banana choco hazelnut cake, banana cake with chocolate ganache and Nutella SMBC. I added praline hazelnuts around the base and topped it with candied hazelnuts. It was my first time making the candied hazelnuts and the recipe suggested making them within' hours of using them. That wasn't an option for me, I had to make them the night before and so with the damp weather my nice long strands of sugar melted some overnight and were much shorter by the time we ate the cake :-( While I was disappointed by it, they looked much more dramatic before melting, everyone was impressed with both the look and taste of the cake. Many said it was their new favorite.

Wedding Cake
This was a wedding cake for my boyfriend’s boss and now wife. Talk about stressed! I still find getting icing perfectly smooth kind of hard so while it’s not perfect, they loved it & I got lots of compliments on it. Phew!! I’ve made cakes for weddings before but this was my most wedding-like cake if that makes sense. It was vanilla bean cake with SMBC (that gave me some grief), cake lace, candy pearls, fondant ribbon, fondant monogram and gumpaste flowers. I stacked the cake at home and kept it refrigerated and then used my cake porter for transport. Once at the venue I added the flowers. I was very pleased with how it turned out so I hope you all like it too :-)

Fisher Scientific Customer Appreciation Day Cake
Cake for Fisher Scientific’s customer appreciation day. This was my 4th year making one for them and while I went a little on the simpler side this year, they loved it! I usually try to one up myself each year but the roads here were torn up for repaving so I chose to keep the cake simple for fear if it being destroyed during delivery. I had a sugar sheet printed with the logos of all the vendors and had them around the edge of the cake. The cake itself is made to resemble a lab scenario, DNA gel, gloves, pipette and PCR tube rack and tubes. The “results” of the DNA gel spell “Fisher” which everyone thought was kinda neat. The only non-edible component are the PCR tubes, they are real tubes (plastic). I called it my grocery store cake since all I see in grocery stores these days are cakes covered in plastic decorations. Lol

Retirement Cake
I tried a new recipe for a family get together last weekend, banana choco hazelnut cake. It was awesome!! It is banana cake with chocolate ganache and Nutella SMBC and then I put praline hazelnut pieces around the base of it. Initially the get together was planned because my boyfriend’s sister was home from NC so I was using the opportuity to test the new recipe and had no intentions of doing any decorating on the cake. Then his sister decided to turn it in to a retirement party for their dad so I found a simple idea to make it retirement themed.

Back To School Cake
I made a lunch box cake inspired by Yolanda Gampp (How to Cake It) for the Chem Club’s welcome back BBQ. I weenied out and didn’t try standing it up as my cocoa banana cake is I think too soft to handle that. I wanted to make all the little lunch box items that she had with her cake but simply did not have the time. The students loved it and all had their phones out snapping pictures before it was cut. I know most university students don’t use lunch boxes but I thought it was a cute idea for back to school so “just had to make it”. It had to be a Chemistry themed lunch box of course!

Birthday Cupcakes
Birthday cupcakes for a 4 year old. All she asked for were sprinkles. Lol. Her favorite color is purple so I went with two shades of it plus pink and white for the icing. Topped them with colorful sprinkles pqlus a few silver ones and then a nice bright pink candy pearl on top. Easy peasy but she loved them :-)

Horse Themed Birthday Cake
My nephew turned 17 on September 2nd. He loves horses and they love him! I took him for his first trail ride when he was I think 9 and he was a natural. It became a yearly thing for us, his reward for grading. He now has a girlfriend who has horses so going on a trail ride with his aunt might not be as appealing any more….. I decided on a horse themed cake for him this year. The horses are done with a mesh stencil by Evil Cake Genius. Love it!! So easy to use and the final result is so detailed. The wood grain was done with an impression mat and then I painted the fondant with gel color and vodka. The bottom three inches of the cake is actually a cake dummy to get the height I needed as there weren’t that many of us to justify a huge cake.

Darth Vader Birthday Cake
This cake was made at the request of two little boys who wanted to have a Star Wars birthday party for their dad. How cute! The cake is cocoa banana cake with chocolate buttercream. The silhouette is cut from fondant and took a lot longer than I anticipated but I was happy with the end result.

Get Well Cupcakes
I made these cupcakes for a lady I take pottery class with. Her mom passed away and she herself ended up getting sick with the stress of it all. I made them nice and bright and cheery. She was very appreciative of them :-) I have included a photo before the addition of the flowers too just to show the bright icing.
