Ornaments, Ornaments, More Ornaments
Whew! These were tough, but the finished product is a show-stopper. The moms in my son's playgroup thought they were the real thing! I couldn't get the fondant tucked smoothly underneath, so they're trimmed at the edge of the mini-ball. And I ran out of time to attach the hangers, but I've saved them for the next go 'round.

Soccer Star
The soccer ball is from the sports ball pan, sitting on a 6-inch plate atop five inch tiers pushed into the base cake. I also drilled a hole into my separator plate (thanks Doug for the instructions!) and ran a wooden dowel through the ball and base. I cut the dowel a little short so it wouldn't poke out the top. It was very sturdy, survived my steep driveway, transportation to the mom's house and then transportation to the party. I painted the wooden dowel silver where it was exposed.

Big Spider
This big spider is a 12-inch petal pan, topped with the sports ball, topped with mini-balls. Chocolate cake and chocolate buttercream. Licorice legs. Theres a dowel running from the head to the base, but I wish I had put dowels under the cake board between the base and the spiders body. He ended up leaning farther back than I was comfortable with!
