Bunny With Tulip-Easter 2010
The body of the bunny was a peanut butter cake, the head and legs were peanut butter RKT. The ears were pastillage and the tulip and the bunny's eyes and nose were gumpaste. I had a real problem keeping the ears upright. Next time I'll start earlier and give them more time to dry. I used a vanilla seven minute frosting to cover the whole and give the impression of fur.

Nico Gets A Guitar For His Birthday
My DH asked me to make a guitar cake for his nephew's birthday back in November. The body of the guitar is a vanilla cake, and the neck is RKT. The whole is covered with fondant and the details are 50/50 fondant gumpaste. I didn't put strings on it because I couldn't figure out how to make them realistic looking. I think next time I'll try dental floss stiffened with meringue or RI.

No, Its Not A Pie.
Chocolate cake filled with cream cheese buttercream. I covered the top with a layer of the buttercream, then covered that with raspberry pie filling, then decorated it to look like a pie. The chocolate cake was a bit too soft for the weight of the topping, but I was told it tasted great. The "raspberries" are fondant.

Birthday June 2010
The kids next door asked if I'd make their mom a birthday cake. The only requirement was that it incorporated strawberries and chocolate. Aside from that I had free reign to do what I wanted (that's always the deal when the cake is free). The cake was a lemon cake with a strawberry filling. The fondant goes completely around and under the cake, and the chocolate covering is ganache.

Spring 2010
This was a peanut butter cake covered with marbled cohocolate MMF. The topper, which was the actual star of the show was my first attempt at working with pastillage. I've learned since that gumpaste is a good deal easier to work with and far more forgiving for small detail work like flowers and bows, though I feel it is still the best medium for plaques.

Do You Want Fries With That
This was my very first designer cake. The "bun" was orange cake covered in fondant, the "burger patty" was RKT covered in chocolate fondant, the "fries" were the same cake cut in strips, toasted and "seasoned" with cinnamon and sugar. The veg in the burger was fondant, and the cup of "mayo" was buttercream. The birthday boy was suitably impressed.

Gift Box
The bottom of the box is three thin layers of vanilla sponge cake on a sugar cookie base. The top layer of cake is cut out to make the recessed portion of the box. The top of the box is a single layer of vanilla sponge on a sugar cookie base. The layers are filled with buttercream and the whole is covered with blue fondant. The white decorations are 50/50 fondant/gumpaste. The "pearls" are gumpaste strung on dental floss.
