Name Birthday Cake
I created this cake for a young lady's 33rd birthday. Her best friend contacted me and asked me to create a cake with her name (Kim). I hand carved each letter free-hand after baking 3 seperate 10-inch cakes. The "K" is red velvet with cream cheese frosting, the "I" is vanilla cake with strawberry filling, and the "M"is carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. All letters are covered in marshmallow fondant and the accents are Satin Ice fondant (I use this only for black accents, because it is very hard and nearly impossible to dye marshmallow fondant black).

Horrific Turntable Cake
I thought this project would be a breeze, since I have made more complex cakes. I don't know know why, but with everystep, something just went wrong. This cake was not what I envisioned for my customer. Needless to say, I barely charged her for anything. This is by far the ugliest cake ever. At least it will taste good.

Wow Wow Wubbzy Cake
I made this Wow Wow Wubbzy cake for my daughter's 3rd birthday party. Wubbzy is a flat sugar image made of Royal Icing and Color Flow Mix. I basically took one of her coloring books, but a picture of Wubbzy underneath parchment paper, and traced it with Royal Icing. I let that dry for 24 hours and then filled in the yellow part using Color Flow Mix. Thank goodness I made extra copies since they break so easily. Not to mention that my husband thought they were cookies and ate one! The figurines around the cake are toys (Kooky Kollectibles). Very hard to find, but I was able to buy a lot of them on Ebay. I used the Wilton Ball Pan to make Wubbzy's ball. I'm upset that forget to add my daughter's name to the second layer. It looks empty. I rushed out the house and forgot the fondant letters. But, overall, I'm happy with the final product.

Simple Anniversary Cake
I made this cake for my mom and dad's 40th wedding anniversary (October 24). It's really simple and beautiful, just like they are. The bottom layer is red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. The top layer is yellow cake with buttercream frosting. My intent was to make a polka dot cake...with the polka dots make out of fondnat. However, the night before I spent 2 hours trying to dye the fondant black (new fondant I'm working with) and it wouldn't take. So, I decided to wrap a beautiful ribbon around the cake instead. I never had this problem with Wilton fondant, but have stopped using it because it tastes so bad. Maybe I'll use Wilton just for the decoration pieces on the cake since it takes color better. The flowers are fake and not made of fondant. If I had more time, I would have made them out of fondant, but after spending two hours trying to get the fondant black, I was exhauseted. And, who knew that black food coloring turns skin red? My hands are bright red and I now look like I have a disease. It's all worth it for my wonderful parents :-)

Wonder Pets Cake
I created this wonder pets cake for a little girl's 2nd birthday. Her father contacted me and asked me to create a cake based on a picture he saw on the Internet. I tried to duplicate it as best as I could. In my opinion, it came out better than what he wanted. The Wonder Pets flag was the only challenge in this cake. I didn't like the flag that was on the picture he sent me. I wanted to make it more authentic-looking. I hand-carved the W for the flag -- aiming for it to look like the official Wonder Pets logo. It took me about 4 times before I got it right. For the white part of the flag -- which I wanted to be edible too -- I first attempted for it to be made all of fondant, but when it dried and I picked it up, it weighed about 5 pounds. I knew that it would never stand up on the cake. So, I cut a paper bag into the shape of the flag and wrapped a very think piece of fondant around it and then stuck the Wonder Pets logo on it. That seemed to work!

Fun, Bright, Simple Birthday Cake
I made this cake for a little boy's first birthday (October 22). I asked the mother what her son liked to customise the cake to him, but she said he didn't really have a favorite anything yet, so I just decided to make the cake bright and fun for little Lucas's 1st birthday.

Lufthansa Birthday Cake
I made this cake for my husband's co-worker who turned 30. He loves his job and is proud to work for Lufthansa, so I wanted to incorporate Lufthansa's logo on the cake. I cut out the bird free-hand from rolled fondant using a sharp knife. All the Lufthansa employees were impressed :-)

Yo Gabba Gabba Cake
I created this cake for a little boy's 1st birthday. I began working on the characters almost 2 weeks in advance, since this was the first time I was doing a Yo Gabba Gabba cake. They took some effort and patience, but overall, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. More pics of the cake and the individual fondnat figures are available in my blog: http://dbaezcakecreations.blogspot.com/2010/10/yo-gabba-gabba-cake.html
