Octogon Wedding Cake With Brooches
Wedding cake from this weekend. The bride saw a picture of a cake that came from Graceful Cakes, and wanted somthing similar. She also wanted octogon shaped layers which were really horrible to ice since octogons really just want to be circles!! This was my first time ever using the viva paper towel smoothing technique and I was really pleased with how the butter cream could get "squished" into smoothness! Also the brooches were a pain in the arse to attach to the sides, I would have preferred to have wired them onto long floral staple thingys but the jewelry was from the bride's grandma so I had to construct weird toothpick, tape, plastic wrap and white ribbon contraptions to pin the brooches onto and be able to stab into the cake. The lessons learned from this cake are 1.Say NO to octogon shaped layers 2.It's fun to smooth paper toweling onto icing. 3. Insist on using/providing the cake "jewelry" that way you can choose light-weight pieces and remove parts and rig like you want.

Lady With Umbrella
the lady who ordered this wanted a tie-dye something in it since the mom-to-be loves tie-dye, thus the prego lady is wearing a tie-dye shirt, well sort of. And while I was adding the flowers to the umbrella I thought it was cute but now think they are too much....lol...I just love to pick apart my cakes sometimes. As usual, All BC, and once again the cake is WASC, which is quickly becoming the huge favorite around here!!!

Good-Bye To Co-Worker
A last minute cake for a wonderful friend and co-worker who is leaving our office to take on the adventures of motherhood full-time! This was my first attempt at brush embroidery flowers, didn't like the way they turned out so then I outlined them in black, I kinda like the "tatoo" look of the flowers.

Group/youth Home Anniversary
This cake is for YDS group home, where I do a lot of rec/social groups and activities with the teens. The workers there are so awesome and welcome each kid with loving arms, but also provide the structure, routine and limit setting theses kids and families need! They are having a fundraiser tonight and wanted a cake with their home on it. I took a little artistic liberty and "gingerbreaded" it up alittle, all the decorations are BC except the hearts are fondant.

Bridal Shower
Once again, using Grace Tari's design, from Graceful cakes, this time for a bridal shower. this is a 4", 6", and 8" all white cake with fresh strawberry filling, iced in BC and polka dots/stripes are fondant- the ribbon is ribbon- I can't remember where I read it- but thanks to whoever reccomended lining the back of fabric ribbons with packing tape- it works perfect and keeps the ribbon from getting grease stains.

Brown Trout
Carrot cake with cream cheese icing, covered in fondant and hand painted. Bubbles are also carrot cake covered in fondant, I used cornsyrup, geletin, blue coloring, fondant circle cut outs and white dragees for the water. I sprayed the fondant librally with water and let sit for a while prior to painting, it help create the "slime-coat" for the trout.

Courtney's Baby Shower
Have any of you ever made a cake where right from the beginning there are problems and instead of being a cake, it becomes an "ordeal" or even a "fiasco"? ....but then at the end you can kinda cover up enough mistakes that it's not so bad....Well this was one of those. This is an attempt at a copy of a Grace Tari design, if you haven't seen her work check it out at gracefulcakes.com, She has some fun and cute designs for cakes and the original much cuter version of the same cake!
