Wavy Cake, La Primavera
This is a birthdaycake for my mother in law, she likes pink :) The top layer is a white vanilla cake with 3 layers of lemoncurd. The bottom layer consists of 4 layers butter cake, two layers of spice cake, filled with two layers of caramel apples and 3 layers of cinnamon caramel sauce. We have to take it to her by train.... 3 1/2 hours! Hope it survives :)

Speculum Mundi: Or, A Glasse Representing The Face Of The World
A society called Speculum Mundi requested a cake for their 35th anniversary dinner. In my search for inspiration and information, I learned about John Swan who wrote a book called Speculum Mundi: or, A glasse representing the face of the world. He lived in Cambridge, England during the Baroque and published his book in 1635, so I tried to incorparate the specific style of clair-obscur and the elaborate decorations as used in Baroque art, architecture and clothing in my cake. John Swans book told the story of God creating the world in six days, the Hexameron. Speculum Mundi means mirror of the world, hence the sphere, the hexagon shape and the mirrors. The cake itself is a chocolate coffee cake with chocolate ganache, because during the late Baroque, coffee and chocolate became available and popular in England. I hope they like the cake and its reference!
