I was asked to do a cake for my works bake sale. For some reason I was thinking it was next week, so as I was leaving work yesterday, my boss asked me how the cake was coming!!! "Um, what?!" Then the lights came on... yikes!! Needless to say I immediately left work, ran to the store, raced home and got to work. Made it to the bake sale 9:00 am sharp this morning!!! Whew!! This was my first topsy turvy cake, it was so much fun to do, but I say that about every cake I do :) Bottom layer was chocolate cake with chocolate mousse, the two top layers were vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream. Covered in MMF, fondant bow and gum paste accents. TFL
I just bought some new lace molds and embossing mats and I couldn't wait for a special occasion to try them out. The cake was a new recipe I've been wanting to try, and I thought this would be a perfect time since it was a total practice cake anyway. Can't wait to try it! This cake was for a friend turning 25 and I wanted to include the things in her life that she loves. All fondant and gum paste, with an edible image photo. Cake is WASC, with chocolate ganache and fresh strawberries. The shopping bag is RKT.
I made this banana cake for a little girl turning 2 years old, she is completely obsessed with bananas. The cake itself is... you guessed it, banana cake. Filled with banana buttercream and covered in MMF. The ends of the banana are RKT.
All gum paste flowers, except for the roses which are buttercream. Covered in MMF with buttercream accents. Spice cake with butterscotch filling. Thank to all who provided much appreciated advice on making gum paste flowers on wires. TFL
This cake was made for a little boy who loves Dinosaurs. He was turning four years old, so I made four dinosaurs to attend the party, and four presents!! The dinosaurs' birthday cake had the boys name written on the top. Fondant, gum paste figures, modeling chocolate trees and table.
Poker cake for a friend, he loves poker, golf and coffee. You can't tell very well in the photo, but the cards around the sides of the cake have golf clubs on the back of them. Yellow cake with a mixed berry buttercream and covered in MMF. The playing cards were edible images, and the poker chips are chocolate candies that I found at a party supply store. The coffee cup is RKT covered in fondant with edible image.
This is my first try at making calla lilies. I had alot of fun makng them. The cake is chocolate with canolli filling ( I got both recipes from CC). The flowers are made out of gum paste and the cake is covered in MMF.
This was just for practice, I was trying different techniques. Any suggestions on acheiving a good coppery look? The cake is a WASC with a peach filling.
This cake was a replica of a friends house, ( this was my first house cake, and it came out a little more 'round' than I wanted) 7 " square, chocolate cake, with chocolate ganache and chocolate mousse filling. Gum paste and fondant were used to make the little critters, fence, birdbath and rocks. The vines and flowers and the trees are buttercream. TFL
Tinkerbell cake, 6" and 8" round, and a 10" pedal. All vanilla with strawberry cream filling. On the very top, was a Tinkerbell Lantern toy, that was a gift for the birthday girl. The bottom layer was quilted, I didn't have any of the metalic balls to go in the corners, so I hand rolled a bunch of very small balls out of fondant, and dusted them with Gold dust, and dried them for a few hours. Lots of fun!! TFL
The bottom layer is a 12" pedal shape and the top tier is a 6" round. The cake was french vanilla with raspberry filling. The animals around the bottom were hand cut out of fondant to match the nursery layette pattern.
This was a red velvet cake, with vanilla custard filling. It was for my daughters birthday. The branches were made out of modeling chocolate, the rest was MMF.
I made this for a friend that was turning 40. He loves to fish, so the sign behind him is giving him the option to go ' over the hill' or go fishing. Due to poor planning on my part, I was not able to make the fishing equipment.. grrr. The cake is banana cake with cream cheese and rum filling. Covered in MMF, the trees are fondant/ gum paste , the grass and the water are buttercream. The sign is modeling chocolate.
All yellow cake, the large cake has a strawberry cream filling. The medium size heart has a butterscotch/ vanilla pudding filling. And the small heart has a chocolate ganache filling. It is covered in MMF and the roses are made out of gum paste. This cake was for my works bake sale.
