Purple & Black
I was really pleased when a customer asked me to make a purple and black cake as this is the theme that I would have made for myself! As I won't be having any parties any time soon (altoghether now.. Awwww!) I decided to use my design for this order. All fondant and made my own template for the swirls. I bought the ostrich feathers from a company on the internet - I just wish I'd had 2 that curled over at the top to give a better balance. The customer loved it and so did I. In fact she almost didnt get it! I think I'll make myself a dummy version...

Double Christening Cake
This was a cake of many 'firsts' - it was the first time I'd used a crimper, the first time I've done a more 'Traditional' style cake and it's also the first time I've piped directly onto a cake... and it shows! I did the piping late at night, through a fog of exhaustion and it ended up running downhill. I was absolutely gutted and didn't want to let it out of the house (I'm a bit of a perfectionist) but it was a last minute order and I didn't have time to fix it. As it turned out, the customer absolutely loved it! lol. I need more practice with the piping bag though!

Snowflake Wedding Cake
This is a wedding cake that I made for a client in December. Ironically enough there was 4" of snow outside, so it was very apt! Unfortunately this is one of the very few photos that I have of this cake. I didn't get chance to take a proper photo (this one is on my iphone) as I was hoping that I could get a professional one from the wedding photographer - But, despite extensive instructions not to move the cake once it had been set up, some idiot at the hotel picked it up and moved it twice, breaking the fondant snowflakes on top. (Aaargh!!)

Sharing A Shell
This is my absolute favourite cake! I made this for my youngest daughter's 2nd birthday. It was based on her favourite bed time book, 'Sharing a Shell' by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Lydia Monks. This cake was a real labour of love and she absolutely LOVED it. To top it off, Lydia Monks saw a picture of my cake and posted it on her blog!!! Seriously! :oD You can see it here: http://lydiamonksbooks.blogspot.com/ (post dated 14th July). The cake was an 8" round, all of the figures were fondant and the sand was brown sugar.

4 Tier Wedding Cake
This was my first wedding cake. It was a 4 tier, white ivory fondant covered cake with tiffany blue and teal flowers scattered down the front.... and it was an absolute NIGHTMARE!!! Cutting a long story short, I (rather stupidly) decided to deliver it fully assembled, which was great until it started to collapse on the motorway! We took it straight home to sort out but my husband then managed to drop the whole thing when he took it out of the car! (Cue full-on panic attack from me). Luckily the wedding wasn't until the next day, so we pulled an all-nighter and I re-baked the middle two tiers, stripped the top and bottom fruit tiers, re-marzipanned and re-fondanted the whole thing, then cut out about 200 flowers. We delivered the cake (as separate tiers) and I decorated it on-site and I STILL got it completed 2 hours before the wedding! It was the most stressful cake I've ever made!!!

Ruby's Cake
I made this cake for baby Ruby's 'Baby Naming Ceremony'.I think that I had managed to anger the cake Gods before I made this cake - the bow was a nightmare! I made an absolutely perfect one, but it cracked and fell apart (aaarrgh!!), then I overworked the fondant and had to mix up some more... everything that could go wrong with that bow went wrong! I got there in the end (without having to sacrafice a chicken to appease the Gods!) I just hope the client (and baby Ruby) likes it!
