Polka Dot Cake With Polka Dot People
Cake done for my nephew's wedding. I don't like offset layers and would have preferred to do a straight stack but that is what the bride wanted. I also had to transport it a half hour in extremely hot weather and it settled a bit but not all things go smoothly in the cake business! Bottom layer is false, second layer is WASC with Strawberry cream cheese filling, third is banana with penuche filling, 4th is peanut butter with strawberry jam and white chocolate peanut butter ganache. Buttercream frosting with fondant accents. Topper is edible-mostly!

I finally decided to take the plunge and try doing some flowers. This is my sixth rose, I am very happy with it but then I love anything yellow....except snowcones. I am replacing my original post with this one to show the wire stem and the little tell-tale dent in one petal because some seem to think this was silk or real. I'm flattered, but it really is gum paste.

Hog-Tied Hunter
This cake was done for a client whose husband practically lives at their deer lease. He catches hogs and hog-ties them instead of shooting them from a distance. She wanted him in the hog-tied position for his birthday and I was happy to oblige. This was my first attempt at figure modeling. I did the hog in gumpaste but found it too difficult so I switched to a fondant/tylose mixture to finish the others. Thanks to Aine2's great tutorials and also to my client for giving me the opportunity. My daughter, Abby, did a great job on the fishing pole, rifle, and ice chest. She didn't need a tutorial! This was a lot of fun to do.

Mike & Stephanie's
This cake was done for a spur-of-the-moment wedding for some friends. Steph likes black and red but didn't want a black or red cake (thank goodness). I hadn't known her very long but did what I thought she would like. It was a very petite and elegant little cake for what little time I had to do it. It was white cake with strawberry cream cheese filling.

Brandy's Cake
This was my niece's wedding cake. It was my first "fondant" experience. I used marshmallow because it seemed easier. Two layers are fondant and the rest is buttercream. I did the fuchsia lace on the bottom and the pearls from fondant also. The flowers were fresh but the florist ignored my instructions and my drawing completely. I had to improvise when I got there to make the cake look presentable. All the florist sent were a bunch of little boutineere-like arrangements. My sister-in-law had some silks and some other decorations I filled in with.

The Little Prince
This is my first pillow cake. I had bought the little crown at Hobby Lobby a few weeks prior because I just knew I would be using it somehow. I have since learned how to do one in sugarpaste so the next one I make will be all edible. I started with fondant in blue and purple and then painted on blue food coloring and added gold dust and mauve luster (which actually looks more blue than mauve). I used a cutter for the designs on the top pillow and just quilted the bottom one and added sugarpaste buttons.

Bronzed Chocolate W/mauve Medallions
This cake is covered in chocolate fondant and bronzed with 3 different metallics. The medallions are sugarpaste. The separator and topper are actually an apothecary type jar that I bought and painted to match the cake. I've had several people tell me it looks "antique". I'm not sure if that's such a good thing for a cake but I think they just mean that it looks like something from the Victorian Era with a little "old Morocco" thrown in.

Alice's Wedding
If Alice from "Alice in Wonderland" got married, would this be her cake? This cake features sugarpaste fantasy flowers and daisies, an Italian plaster-like textured frosting and royal frosting medallions featuring the words "love", "cherish", "honor", "respect". Chosen because to be loved and cherished is most important for women and to be honored and respected is most important for men.
