Bicycle
Made from gumpaste for a groom's cake that a friend of mine was making. The groom was an avid bike rider. Painted with gel colors. I've added more pics since many have asked how I made this. Pics explain it pretty well. I used the Makin's clay extruder. Pieces of spaghetti to hold frame together. For the handle bars I shaped a piece over a bubble tea straw and let it dry to shape. To adhere to bike I put it in the divot I made for it then put some gumpaste over it to hold it in place.

Memorial Day Cake
While searching for ideas for a Memorial Day cake I mostly found pictures of happy cakes with "Happy" Memorial Day on them. I searched "Memorial Day" images on line and found no shortage of wild party pictures. I was struck by how many of us have lost sight of the reason behind this day and this cake design came to me. I love it! It's my new favorite and first time working with a non crusting BC (no Viva here - gulp!). BC w/ fondant flag, Memorial Wall and rose.

Graduation Cake
Done in school colors with school logo on the cover and grad's name and major on the spine. This is my first book cake and special thanks to Sarsi for her tips on making a book. My second cake with Fondx fondant and I have to say I just think it's too soft (even with tylose added) and will be going back to using MMF.

Curious George
I was given a picture of a cake and asked to recreate it. I tweaked the design and added the Man With The Yellow Hat and Hundley. George is a store bought cake topper. Bananas are gumpaste w/ fondant peel. Sorry I can't give credit to the original decorator because I don't know who did it but it's a cute idea.

Brothers' Cake
Mom felt bad that her daughter was getting so much fuss for her birthday she wanted something small for her brothers. I looked around and my son was wearing a t-shirt that totally inspired this cake! Guitar is gumpaste. My camera took some funky pictures so the colors are muted but the guitar was neon green w/ white stripes over chocolate BC. Two torted 5" layers.

Heart Shaped Gift Box And Purse
This cake was for a little girl having her birthday party at one of those dress up places so the theme was high fashion. The purse and giftbox are cake. This was my first ever purse cake and thanks to all of the tips and ideas here on CC I was able to do a pretty decent job. Gumpaste shoes and jewlery. Candy melts make-up.

Teacher's Appreciation Cake
Made this for my son's teachers since it's Teacher's Appreciation Week. Gumpaste floral spray on floral wire. Cake shape achieved by baking in Wilton soccer pan. Fondant over ganache. Covered the neck w/ fondant separately after it fell off on my first attempt to cover the whole thing w/ one piece (too heavy). Fondant covered board. Thanks for looking!

50Th Anniversary
Gumpaste scrolls (again, inspired by 2muchsugar's original - gorgeous!), gumpaste flowers, fondant covered cake on lid, 10" and 6" BC with fondant "ribbon". i won't even comment on how long it took me to finish this cake. Suffice to say I had to re-bake four times....it was my "cake humbling" week. But, as always, worth the end result.

Transformer Cake
I really had far grander plans for the flames (ie: yellow/orange candy melt flames) but this was cake 3 of a 3 cake weekend so it's ultimate execution came up waaaay short. The birthday boy loved it.... I almost didn't even want to take a pic of it - let alone post it here but hey, alls fair in caking so here it is. Toys provided by daddy.

Cakes For Twin Boys
These cakes were made for twin boys whose birthday fell on Easter. Mom wanted a birthday and Easter theme combined. These were lots of work but well worth the end result. Gumpaste shoe template from CC. Bow and cake design from Sugarshack's Boxes and Bows DVD. Teddy bear is wilton mini bear pan. Duck is chocolate (store bought). 10" torted, 2 layer, BC w/ fondant accent pieces.

Dragon Cake
This was a second take on a cake class cake that I had taken to my son's school. Someone there saw it and wanted one so I made her this much better version. The lettering and "flames" are white chocolate candy melts colored yellow with orange coloring swirled in. Got to play with my airbrush too!

Baby Boy's First Birthday
Birthday cake for my friend's son's first birthday. Shoes are gumpaste (thank you stellastarchild). The duck is store bought chocolate. The ding in the frosting behind the duck's head is where I removed a cut out and had to resmooth. It shows more in the pic and was not noticable in person. Cake and bow made from following the instructions in Sharon Zambito (Sugarshack) Boxes and Bows DVD. Special thanks to her! Bow is gumpaste. Cake details MMF. 8", 2 torted layers, on 1/2" foil covered foamboard

40Th Birthday Cake
This cake was humbly inspired by the jaw dropping beauty created by 2muchsugar (her "Chocolate & Gold Three Tier" cake). Learned a lot with this one. BC w/ gumpaste scrollwork. Roses are a result of my borderless tier mishap. Bottom tier not so great since I was smoothing with my 5 1/2 month old on my hip and got a bit heavy handed. Chocolate Kahlua cake with raspberry filling = YUM!

Basket Weave Cake
Cake class basket weave cake. Edited to add: I am left handed and struggled miserably to do these roses (that's why there are so many) but I just don't like how flat the Wilton rose is. So to remedy this I piped the bases and let them sit overnight to harden then went back and piped the petals. This gave me the effect I prefer on my roses. Thanks for looking!

Fire Truck & "cakescape"
Cake I made for my son's fourth birthday. MMF, WASC w/ strawberry BC, royal icing grass and roadway (the first road was very smooth poured royal icing but my son couldn't resist and did some "excavating" so I had to redo the road) flames are made with colored white chocolate candy melts freehand on wax paper w/ #3 tip (tip: use tip to "pull out" flames as candy just starts to cool). Ladders are 50/50 MMF and gumpaste. Support underneath is wood with cake foil covering. If I do this cake again I will make in three sections and cover w/ fondant separately then assemble on cake board for a better finish.

My "virgin" Cake
Aptly named because this practice cake was my first time ever doing roses, a square cake, a box with lid cake, molding chocolate, working with pearl dust and oh yes, MOST importantly my first upload to CC! Finally, a practice cake worthy enough. I only just discovered the joy (ha! more like obsession!) of cake decorating about three weeks ago but have been practicing like crazy and have learned SSOOOOO much from all of the experience here. Fondant is MM. I rushed it so it's not that great. Roses are MMF, details are molded white chocolate.
