Julie's Shoebox Birthday Cake
My first time making a shoebox cake and shoes! Thank you everyone on CC who posted tips and tricks - I spent hours pouring over them, mapping out my plan of attack! The base and lid are cake - coconut cake with pina coloada filling (so good!), and covered in fondant. The tissue paper, rolled roses, accent pieces on the box and lettering are fondant. The shoes are a fondant gumpaste mix. This was also the first time I used my clothes steamer on a cake - it was cool and now I have a new cake toy-that I already had:)

Alamo Tour Guide Birthday
This was made for the birthday of a friend who is a tour guide at the Alamo. The cake is covered in fondant, the Alamo walls/details are fondant, the tour guide is fondant/gumpaste, and the grass and ivy are buttercream. The question (below the birthday message) is his most asked question.

House Surprise
This was our Housewarming gift for my DH's cousin. We had secretly driven by her house the week before and snapped a photo (DH didn't even slow down - he was afraid she would see!), and I made "her" house out of fondant. I hand "carved" the bricks and painted them. The cake is buttercream covered with an airbrushed cloudy sky and grass. The tree, bushes, borders, and cloud writing are buttercream. What's funny is that she and her mom were talking about the cake the day before and her mom told her that she should have asked if we could draw her house on it in someway:)

Camo, Dogtags, And Bullets
This is DH's design for his brother's birthday cake. This is a buttercream cake, smoothed using Viva method. We made molds out of a real bullet and filled them with a peanut butter/chocolate candy melt mix. They were painted with Bronze pearl dust and painted with the pearl dust mixed with vodka. The dog tags and chain were made out of fondant and airbrushed silver. The writing was done with an edible marker. My first cake that turned out exactly how we planned!:)

Pink Panther Birthday
This was for our older niece's birthday. It was a two layer 8" that I stacked and filled, cut at an angle, turning the top half so the cake angled down. This was my first time doing chocolate transfers. My first one looked smoother, but broke when I went to put it on the cake. This one was my "it's late and I really need to get this done so I can get a few hours of sleep before work tomorrow" attempt. Overall, I like the technique and just need to spend some more time practicing with it. The idea of the swirls on the cake came from the papertowel I squeezed the chocolate bags over to check flow before using them on the cake.

Father's Day Burger 'n Fries
These were made using the instructions and templates from Bakerella's blog. I had to use Ghiradelli brownies, instead of the mix called for in the instruction. You know, since we had to eat the leftover bits. Yum:) We gave them to all of the dads in our family the live nearby.

Beach
This cake drove me nuts - or maybe bananas! Itwas supposed to be a Beach Monkey themed cake, but my gumpaste monkey broke when I tried to attach the hands. After being reworked so many times and getting almost dry, poor monkey had to be laid to rest. The hut I was carving out of cake to put next to the tree crumbled apart. I had to remove the bottom half of the tree so it wouldn't topple over - it was really heavy. The cake was also supposed to be be covered in fondant, but after 1 batch of MFF and 2 batches of MMF would not work (bad weather last weekend - maybe that had something to do with it), it was covered in the thick buttercream I had made to dam the cakes. The surfboards, beach ball, tree, sand pail and shovel are gumpaste. The sand is crushed up Vanilla Wafers. Our store had the mini multi-color ones, so I used all of the light ones and tossed in a few dark ones. The cake itself was good. I used Macsmom Banana Split Cake recipe.

Sesame Street Cupcakes
My nephew's 1st birthday was Sesame Street themed. I saw all of the cute cupcakes on CC and knew I had to make them. There are so many great ones here on CC that inspired me. These are chocolate and vanilla swirled cupcakes with cream filling and decorated with buttercream, fondant, and assorted candy. The kids really loved them and getting to chose their favorite character.

Hello Kitty Cake
This fondant Hello Kitty cake was for one of our niece's birthday. The cutouts and lettering were also MMF. This banana cake was my third attempt using fondant. I'm finally starting to get the cakes smoother. One of these days they won't be lumpy at all, I hope:) The kitty is a fondant and gumpaste mix and dressed to match the party plates and napkins (I didn't like how the gumpaste monkey I made before had dried and looked cracked, so thought mixing it would help-it seemed to).

My First Time Trying To Marble Fondant
This was for my MIL's birthday. I was trying to get one more practice with fondant in before my niece's Hello Kitty cake last month. So my MIL wouldn't feel like it was just another practice cake, I tried to marble it with her favorite color and made roses using a video I found on youtube. DH helped make roses :)
