Someone asked me to make them a "piano cake". Before I could get another word out, this coworker told me she had already ordered the piano and she would hand it to me when it came. Lo and behold, it was a little mahoghany music box! Heavy as heck! I had to make a doweled platform for it, but it turned out. Thanks for viewing!

This was my son's irst birthday cake from last week. The grass is made of gumpaste, the cake is buttercream and buttercream filling. I did not use a special pan, instead I baked an 8", 6" and cake batter in an aluminum mixing bowl that was 5". I leveled and stacked all three then used a coupler without an opening to pipe the concentric design with a softened buttercream. The bees are gumpaste as well with royal icing eyes.
Part of my Christmas gifts to family and friends. They took a long long long time. Way more time intensive than cakes :)

Gumpaste Flower Wedding Cake
This was a basic white cake with a lot of gumpaste arrangements. Here's the story: This cake was for a friend who paid for the ingredients and I donated my time as the wedding gift. I didn't find out until we arrived that the venue was going to be an outdoor shelter, up a steep winding slope, on a warm day. My DH helped me "reassemble" the cake after it slid around the long trek to the shelter. I was so glad, in the end, that this cake hadn't cost the family, but they loved it nevertheless! :)
This was a 3 tier buttercream with chocolate and bavarian chocolate filling. My coworker is very popular and this cake was the end of a day of her big birthday after the directors took her to lunch. She likes Mexican food so I decided to go with an "Adobe" theme!
