Can someone help me with this cake i'm doing? I had a customer ask me to make a cake for her boss who is moving to another country. She wanted me to make a suitcase with all the things he loves on it.  There are so many things she wants me to make to put on top like a globe, tennis racket, cell phone, wine bottle, books, passport, and laptop.  I don't know how to make all those on top of the cake without it looking so cluttered. Should I tell her that in order for the cake to look uncluttered, it might be best to put just a few things on top?? I am afraid that if I make all those things that it would be pointless to even make a suitcase bc it would just be covered up. and besides, she only has a $125 budget for a cake to feed 25. that's a lot of work to make all those things for $125.  What is your opinion?

There's is no way you should do all of that detail for $125.  Tell her $125 is a really good deal for a well executed suitcase and that you would charge $xx for each of the other things she wants.

AThe problem is that I had told her I would do it then she started adding more items for the cake. I also told her if she wanted all those that they would be miniaturized in order to fit on top of the cake. I just think it would look too cluttered. Wonder if there's a way to fit all that on there without making all of it. Like maybe making books on top and have the titles of the books be something like tennis or world travel? There's gotta be a way to incorporate all those without making them??

just make little bitty ones and you could scatter them around -- since you already told her they would be miniaturized you should be fine -- just  make 'charms' of all those things -- not real size --

in fact you could look up those particular charms on ebay to give you good ideas for the short cuts

globe, tennis racket, cell phone, wine bottle, books, passport, and laptop -- these are not difficult to make if you go for the 'create an illusion of' rather than going for 'looks just like' --

however to give you a thought about your idea of 'books' you could do 'travel stamps' with all those ideas represented which would be appropriate to slap all over the suitcase -- for wine and computer you could do a silicone valley ca stamp because apple is there and all the wineries around there or do italy for wine -- and the globe is a no brainer -- tennis racket wimbledon, london uk stamp-- cell phone just make a charm easy peasy -- books put a famous library on a travel stamp --

best to you

AI was thinking of you making fondant "decorations" from a cookie cutter or some type of mold. I agree, way too much to put on it...need very small things.

AI like the travel sticker options on the suitcase. Very easy to do if you use edible images.

If a customer changes the requirements of the project, it will change the price. It sounds like you agreed to $125 for your original design, not with the addition of all the other 'stuff'.

You could do a slightly  "opened" suitcase, like with the stuff poking out the sides, so it looks like it can't close.
