I'm a cake decorator on a low carb diet. It sucks. I can't have cookies, donuts, cakes. No sweets except fruit. This is misery.

there might be a recipe you might like on my blog -- i have some that are very diet friendly

http://k8memphis.blogspot.com/

it's not super organized -- the kale chips are awesome -- and there are several chocolate items that might be ok -- some of the recipes are with no wheat flour and truvia -- the pizza crust is ridiculous -- and you don't feel all bogged down when you eat it because it is mostly cauliflour -- it's amazing srsly

Yes, being on a diet sucks!! When I hit age 45 is when my weight fluctuation started!! Before that I could eat anything that I wanted. I love cupcakes and basically anything sweet!! The weight can creep up on us before we know it!!!

here's some something that sucks worse aka some serious inspiration --

"What we've crystallized it down to now, in essence, is that diets that are high in sugar and carbohydrates, and similarly diets that are low in fat, are devastating to the brain.

When you have a diet that has carbohydrates in it, you are paving the way for Alzheimer's disease. I want to be super clear about that. Dietary carbohydrates lead to Alzheimer's disease. It's a pretty profound statement, but it's empowering nonetheless when we realize that we control our diet. We control our choices, whether to favor fat or carbohydrates."

AChoose a,b or c: a) “Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread, and pumpkin pie." (Jim Davis) b) A balanced diet is chocolate in BOTH hands. c) Once you lick the frosting off a cupcake it becomes a muffin...and muffins are healthy.

AA very wise person once told me that you should never diet. Going in to a diet, you already expect it to end. Change your eating habits permanately and you will have success. If you can get your mind around a healthier lifestyle then the weight will come off naturally. That unfortunately requires one heck of a will power! Being a cake decorator means the "evil" is always there.... And I swear sugar is more addictive then crack.

Now that's not to say you can't enjoy life, moderation is the key. If you have a small piece of cake, then up your physical activity to "match" it. I have NEVER counted calories, instead I follow exercise programs and eat a clean diet for the most part. I am addicted to sugar and fell off the band wagon 4 weeks ago when my kids got sick, but I fully intend to enjoy my xmas and start back up in the new year.

AI have been on two different diet where you lose weight fast, but it all came back. Then tried calorie counting and for me it worked the best. With calorie counting it took me 6 months to lose 16 pounds but weight doesn't come back. Basically it is "eat a bucket less of food". I agree with aapoll about changing your eating habits.

My husband lost weight and all he did eat less carbs and replace them with protein and veggies. I also read that you should only eat until your about 80% full, lets your food settle so you're not bloated after a meal.

I lost weight recently on a diet no one should do.... a GI problem.... lost 8 pounds in about a week or two. Now I'm trying to gain it back, but stupid gall bladder is acting up so now to get that out first then I can go back to trying to gain the weight back. I have a problem where I can't eat when I'm stressed (and with an 8 month old I have to watch myself, ha ha).

But eat in moderation and low carb/high fat/high protein is what my hubby does, and what I try to do (a low carb Italian? yeah right!). Sugar tells your body to store the fat instead of burning it for energy, hence the low carb stuff. But you gotta watch those "diet" bars, most say low carb but are loaded with nasty things to make up for the lack of carbs. I prefer high carb/low fat... ha ha.

A50lbs after each of my children. 10-15lbs here and there. Healthier and I feel better, I can really notice the extra sweets when I cheat too much. My energy and my mood takes a nose dive.

ALots of protein is absolutely key. I drink a lot of shakes, eat greek yogurt, lots of veggies. Even though my exercise program has been paused until after xmas and I've been eating way too much junk, my weight hasn't changed (other then your normal 1-5lbs a day).

I also had issues almost 2 years ago now before I found out I was celiac. I dropped 20lbs that I didn't have to lose, in 2 months. It was really hard to put it back on... At least in a healthy way.

Good luck with the gallbladder surgery. Even if you're only drinking shakes when you're stressed at least it's something. 8lbs isn't too much to gain back, but if you keep losing it will be.

AI agree with aapoll. A diet is temporary only. If you live healthy, eating lots of veggies and exercising, the weight will come down naturally. My friend was on a weight watcher "diet" and I joined in for the fun of it, just to realize all those hidden calories...! Wow, what an eye opener!!! Now, living in another continent, living a complete different lifestyle made me actually struggle to put on weight, dropping in the red zone after every little flu which is also not fun! Unfortunately I'm the opposite of a stress eater and hell, I have a lit of stress. But since I had the kids, I eat at least very healthy. There is always a reason why you put on weight - not talking about being ill or pregnant - and that is that one takes too many calories. So, two ways out: Less/ different eating or more exercise... Or embracing the fact that we are thankfully all different, in shape, in color, in hight etc. Who says what's too much and too little weight??? As long as one is healthy

I'm giving @Natka81 the blue ribbon for this little gem!!

It is math, it's pretty simply math, and it's not much different that managing  your banking account.  Money in - money out - did you spend-burn more money than you put in.

If fat were gold bullion I'd be a fricken billionaire...........:top hat:

A@Mbalaska, we always come down to this phrase (we say it in Russian) when we talk with my friends and family about losing weight/diet. When my diets didn't work, I took one advice to write down what I ate, for 1 week. And that was a big eye opener. That is when my calorie counting started.

Julia 1812 the problem with embracing all sizes is that it is not healthy.  The western world is known for its obesity, which causes massive health problems.  People just don't want to acknowledge what is happening and, certainly in Australia, the health system looks after them so there is no push for people to change in a lot of cases. Its not necessarily in big ways either.  e.g..  How many overweight people have knee problems, or back problems, that would be alleviated by losing weight rather than taking pills.  Same with cholesterol and diabetes.  The problem is that we give everyone pills and say never mind its not your fault when the opposite is the truth.

AIt's amazing [@]cazza1[/@], the patients are getting bigger and bigger that my husband treats. He gives anaesthetics for back and orthopaedic surgeries and the patients are generally over 100kg (220 lbs) as a starting point. This week was yet another 160kg patient - and one of these people was my height - all of 5 feet tall! They can't exercise because of their weight, but then they have terrible pain and other problems as a result of the excess weight. Some patients even put on 10-20kg in the time between booking the surgery and coming in a month or two later. Of course they don't appreciate how difficult and stressful it is to anaesthetise someone that size, especially with all the other health problems they generally have eg cardiac disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc, etc. They also have women coming in for exploratory surgery to find out why they can't get pregnant when they're 40, 50kg overweight or more. I get really frustrated that my husband is so stressed all the time trying to keep people alive.

Plus I hate the fact that the health system pays for all of this treatment for the problem (public and private health) but of course those of us who try to be healthy don't get any bonuses eg gym membership or new sneakers for walking etc.....

Ok, now I have to calm down, sorry for the rant! I just don't think people think of other people being affected by their weight eg the medical staff. They don't want to embarrass or shame people, they just want them to be healthy and survive,

the book 'Fit or Fat' by Covert Bailey is one of the best ever on this subject.  I can remember watching his PBS program back in the 70's or was it the 80's (too far back to remember).

i think the smoothie thing is a good lifestyle change -- and i just made it up -- no recipe --but i do have some recipes i'm gonna try
