AI have seen several threads about trends, that we as cake decorators, would love to see end. I am just curious what you, as a decorator, would love to see be a new trend, or perhaps an old trend revived. Go............
Good Old Fashioned 'Lambeth' piping. It still absolute amazes and delights me. It seems that a few decorators in the UK still do this. Stunning skills needed!!
Ayes i agree i think piping is coming back and I really like that-- more more more piping!
..........Good Old Fashioned 'Lambeth' piping. ..........
yes, Yes, YES!
I know it's work - takes time but oooohhhhhhh so lovely.
Okay, so still learning various decorating methods....I will admit I had to Google the Lambeth piping...but O....M.....G.....so pretty. Yes, I would love to develop this skill and see this on cakes more and more.
A trend I'd like to see go? Baby shower cakes that look like babies. Cute when complete? Yes. But then you cut the baby and eat the baby.....a little on the creepy side for me, personally. But, maybe that's just me.
I agree wholeheartedly with you, "KellyKSD," on the "baby" cakes (are they "cellular peptide" cakes, "with mint frosting"?). That and "pregnant belly" cakes. Hell, I'm not exactly thrilled with putting an edible photograph of a person on a cake.
I wish I could find some instantly recognizable section of MacArthur Park, with trees (as in "old men playing checkers by . . . "), that's small enough to fit on top of an 8" square layer cake, at a large enough scale to have recognizable figures (one in a "yellow cotton dress" and one either wearing or ironing a "striped pair of pants"). At least "sweet green icing flowing down" is easy enough.
Pardon me if I sound frustrated. Actually, the long-term "MacArthur Park cake" project is the least of my frustrations right now.
I wish somebody would invent edible xerographic toner, and a food-safe laser printer, but that's probably not going to happen within my lifetime.
We just bought a 3d printer for other reasons and I'm looking forward to seeing what people create. So far - none of the output is edible ...but maybe customizable stands? It's very Star Trek but S L O W ! James - maybe there's something to that for your MacArthur Park project?

Oh, you can make your own cookie cutters! I've bought a few now off Etsy, and the only caveat is you can't put them in the dishwasher, or they will melt!
