I also posted this in the recipe section but thought it might get more attention here.

I have a couple of mixes that are getting old and would like to use them rather than throw them out.

The only recipes I have found in an internet search are for cookies and cakes.  I'm looking for something different.  Any one out there have any suggestions? :)

Make savory cookies? Bacon is a popular add-in. Jalapeno lime cranberry is good as well. How about making something you can fry with them, like fried cake bites or using it as a coating like bread crumbs maybe?

ABiggest hurdle is the sugar aspect in the mix and flipping it to savory as I am sure you realize, however..I could see working a portion of the dry mix along with the regular recipe and more savory spices into :Frying batter. Waffles/pancakes. Dumplings/biscuits, gravies/roux, fat noodles. Interesting........but I am unconvinced for it to be in a good way. Getting old as still before expiration date? If so I'd pass on to the local food pantry. After expiration date, do you like the neighborhood kids? Let them make the mixes. Waste not want not, but I'm not quite sure how my family would take me doing this to our daily meals. Good luck, please let us know how you get along!

Thank you all for your suggestions.

I live in an apt complex for seniors.  Most of them are diabetic so sweets in general (cookies/cake) are out.  No kids around.  I do like the idea of mixing it w/cornbread mix.  But......anyone hear of chocolate cornbread?? :)

All due respect to your superstar status, but is this now a joke? You are questioning if anyone has heard of chocolate cornbread? No amount of savory ingredients/spices you add to any cake mix, will it negate the sugar/white flour aspect that senior diabetics should not have. Unless you are using teaspoon/tablespoon amounts of the cake mix in your endeavors.

I'm pretty sure Kakeladi's previous reply was to say that she does not intend to make anything for the seniors, moreover she is looking for a way to use the mixes in her own home.
