Hi everyone!

Sorry I'm here late tonight. We have a wedding tomorrow so we are in full "event" mode around here and we stuck a family dinner in there too! No cakes this week but I have one coming up for the 4th of July so I will have one to share soon!

AHere is mine for my baby girl's 5 month birthday. A Cinderella inspired slipper on a pillow cake :) first time using the wilton pillow pan, the reviews are right. The edges are a bit dry :( but all in all i like the effect and no carving! Woohoo!

A[@]mattyeatscakes[/@] such a beautiful cake! I've always wanted to make a pillow cake. Did you use a shoe kit for the slipper?

Very pretty Matty.  No pics from me this week either.  We had cake club today with a guest decorator from Perth and she was fantastic.  We did an open rose that she learned from Alan Dunn and adapted to suit herself and other little bits to add in to our sprays and then she demonstrated covering boards with fabric and and wonderful base collars for cakes.  A fantastic day overall with so much learnt.

AThis is not a decorated cake, but one I did for my husband's birthday. It's the American Beauty Cake from The Pastry Queen. Flourless chocolate cake on the bottom, mousse on top, then a chocolate glaze over that. The whole thing included 9 eggs! It is served just a few minutes out of the freezer.

I was concerned it would just be too much, but it was actually very smooth and I liked it a lot. We did have to cut really small pieces though.

AHere's mine. It was chocolate fudge cake with mocha icing. I really struggled with the fondant, especially the green hands.

Thanks for the compliment :) it was a fun cake to make so definitely try one! No, i used a template for the shoe and cut it out using an exacto knife. Good luck! :)

That's such a pretty cake! Did you use Tappits for the letters? First time using mine and i hated it! And it was only for a short name! Hahaha any secrets? Your letter cutouts are so neat and clean! :)

Thank you :) Yes it is tappits, I hate them just as much as you do haha! They can be a very big pain. Just make sure to put a lot of corn starch in the tappits. Also, make sure you use gum paste for the letters; once rolled out let it dry a little, this way its easier to get them out afterwards.

A@mattyeatcakes that is such a elegant cake. I wonder if I can talk one of my nieces into having

Love looking at all the cakes. I made a chocolate chip cookie layer cake. Going to see how well it holds up to cutting.

I made this cake for my mother's graduation this week.  Chocolate cake with Oreo Swiss Meringue buttercream, modeling chocolate for everything else.  This was fun to do, but also quite difficult working with modeling chocolate in 95 degree weather today.

I love the cake. May I ask how you made an oreo smbc?

AThank you, sweettia. My apologies, swiss meringue was the original plan, but I ended up using this recipe I found in google...http://www.bakerita.com/cookies-and-cream-cupcakes/ Next time I will make swiss meringue as normal, then just add in the crushed Oreo at the very end. In any case, be sure to crush Oreo pretty well if you plan on inserting any dowels for a stacked cake.

O.K., I thought after all the effort I went to I should use last week's bougainvillia.  I decided on a 'through the garden fence' theme.  Used an edible image that I printed for the garden, made the fence out of gumpaste and then sprawled the bougainvillia over it.  Looks a bit messy but that is how bougainvillia is.  I was pretty pleased with the effect.  It's fun to become obsessed with a concept and then have it work for you

My3boysmummy, if you go to craftsy.com they have some free classes.  One of them is on fondant.  You might get some tips on how to apply your fondant more smoothly.  A lot of it is just practice but you are doing well for a beginner.

Ugh, another 2 cake week for me.  It was brutal but the results were worth it.

The inside is a rainbow cake which made everyone happily surprised.  I was happy that not only did the gumpaste lid hold together in the 90% humidity, the thing stayed up!

Super Pink Princess cake.  Princesses from Super Mario.  I made this entire cake in 1.5 days.  The toppers were teeny tiny compared to the size I normally make.  They are about 3 inches tall, waists thinner than my pinky, and their heads were the size of hazelnuts.
