Hi all!  First time poster here!!  I had a client contact me about doing a pig roast cake for her husband.  When asking about servings I was told more than 75.  I have no idea how to quote this cake (pictured) but I was thinking around $150.  Does that sound reasonable, too low, too high?  Any help would be appreciated.

many thanks,

Christie

my base price would be $8 - $10 a serving -- and 'more than' 75 is too wiggley you need to have her finally decide--

so for example 100 is more than 75 so i could name that tune in eight hundred to one thousand dollars -- give or take

AWell, you can put a pink ribbon on a drama que...pig, but it's still a pig. :) Wreak is probably the word you were going for, but I could be wrong.

AThere are a thousand and one pricing threads here, just look around, and you'll find one that's helpful. $150 would definitely not be enough for me.

Oh stop it AZ, you would find fault in anything I post. Carry on business lady, must be a slow week with all those undercutters, shame though you make such beautiful cakes. Hope business picks up for you!

Nobody's wants to argue with you, find someone else to take your personal frustrations out on, we're all stocked up here.

AYou're hilarious! You self identified with something I mentioned in a completely different thread, I didn't name names, didn't even hint as to who I referred to, and yet you found a way to identify with it here, in a completely unrelated thread. I'm impressed with your, I don't know what actually.

A[@]cdelrich[/@], my sincere apologies for the silliness on your post. Unfortunately, there's a segment of the membership here who likes to hold grudges, and interject nonsense from completely unrelated threads, and then act like they didn't do anything at all when called on it. I on the other hand completely own up to my shenanigans, and manage to offer help with the issue at hand as well. Don't worry, some of us do have actual valid information to offer, just have to weed thru the nonsense sometimes. So just look around, and you'll find plenty of helpful pricing advice. Best way to learn is to research, research, research.

Hello Christie, I was just following this post with a bit of humor because these threads seem to easily get out of hand as you can see. The best advice I can offer you is to search for pricing threads to help with your pricing questions.

Good Luck!

I am appalled at the responses by Redneck Ruffle and Enga.  Shame on you for stirring the pot and instigating.  This could have so easily died out.  Shame.  Shame.

OP, I created a roasted hog head for a rehearsal dinner.  They were roasting a whole pig and it was just perfect.

http://www.verydeliciousdesserts.com/#!Here-Piggy-Piggy/zoom/c11wr/imageiut

That is a bit more realistic than what I think you client is asking.  To give you some perspective, that cake served about 35-40 and was $700.

Most people will offer prices based on servings and then add additional charges for extra, more labor intensive decorations.  I am in Charleston, SC and am priced starting at $5.00 a serving for tiered cakes.  Most of my groom's cakes are $8-10 a serving.  I count the servings of the entire cake not just the end result.

I was not stirring the pot or instigating, you know how these threads get heated. I was making light of that fact and assume Redneck Ruffle was too. I was not rude to the OP or anyone else.

I don't know where the mod is today or how these threads are not getting locked right away like they have been lately.

Look, I've only been here for a few weeks, and I can tell you this much........women are looney! I actually did begin my time here with the search bar. It usually landed me in threads with AZCouture and several others that have zero interest in helping anyone. Only to mock, ridicule, and act like they are a benevolent gift from God to the pastry industry. It's pretty pathetic.

I'm also a member of a truck forum, and those folks NEVER behave like this. If someone posts a question that's been asked in a million previous threads, they are still met with polite, helpful responses and links to other relevant threads. People sign up and post a question so that they feel like they're part of a community..."one of the guys." Ask a question here, and the snarky claws come out. If you see the word "pricing", DON'T CLICK! It's that damn simple, ladies!

I'm going back to talk about Chevy's for a while. DAY-UM!

AHey! Cake decorating should make us happy :) i know we all have our own issues, different ideas, views, values etc etc.. But there really is no need for drama. Or public bashing.. This is suppose to be a forum for cake decorating, not an episode for the "Maury show".

All this drama is actually pretty good reading, kinda like a soap or reality tv. But if i wanted that i would open my tv. Or read my tabloid magazine. Or talk to my mom. I wouldn't expect or want to read this in a cake forum. I come here to talk cake!

Honestly, we don't need to be all friends. But we could at least try to be polite and respectful of each other. No, i'm not saying everything has to be sugar coated, i know unicorns do not exist. Lol.. But being direct can also be complimented with tact and respect.

Just my two cents :) happy caking!

AIt's hilarious, to be honest. So much good material to work with at times, it's hard to pick what to reply to. :D

But really now, that's such a typical reply. Allllll I do is snark. Not true, I am quite helpful, really helpful actually. But I don't give false praise where it's needed, and I question things that don't make sense, and point out stupid statements and the people behind them. That part is truly entertaining. ;)

AYou said it yourself [@]RedneckRuffle[/@], you've only been here a few weeks. I've been here for years, watching people come and go, making friends who are great business owners, and have lots of good help to offer. At this point, I'm one of those people as well. Might do you some good to investigate what's being said, rather than how it's being said, or by who.

I've read lots of your posts. I have no doubt whatsoever to your knowledge, but sometimes you and the rest of your clique can make Maleficent look like Mother Teresa. I was gonna post a question last week, but I feared for my life. I have children. It's not worth them losing their father just because I had sticky fondant.
