I just purchased the CakeBoss software last week and so far I love it!  However, I am having trouble seeing how an actual profit is being made for the business.  The ingredients and materials are entered for each cake, factored in with my hourly wage, and then overhead but my wages shouldn't be considered "business profit," correct? So basically the only cost being put back into the business is the overhead.  It is a miniscule amount that is being funneled back into the business.

Perhaps I am missing something.

Here is an example of a fake quote I made:

9" banana cake

Ingredients: $9.03

Materials: (board/box) $1.90

Overhead: $5

Hourly Wage: $18 x 2 hrs

Out of Pocket: $15.93

Calculated Price: $51.93

Price per serving: $2.60

It's been less than three hours. Is this an emergency? The courteous approach for receiving help is to post your question(s) and wait for responses.

I wasn't implying that it was an emergency. Sorry if it came off that way.  I know many people use the software (or their own) and figured I would receive at least one response.

Well then, the courteous approach for receiving help is to post your question(s) and wait for responses.

Well thanks for all of your help. I've seen others "bump" their posts when they haven't received responses.

And this topic isn't even a heated one like "how much should I charge for this cake" so I didn't think it would be treated as such.

And believe me, I wasn't trying to be rude or not courteous .  I've learned a lot from being on here in the few short months that I have.  However, there is a way to be helpful and a way to belittle someone...

Welcome to CC sweetiecakessb , there are a lot of helpful members here that would be more than willing to help you with your question. Me, well some don't even respond to me at all, haa haa ha. I don't mind.

There was a thread a few weeks back about using Cake Boss that may help.

The easiest way for you to get prompt answers to the Cake Boss software is to email them directly  - they provide a great support service

You have a serious 'sense of entitlement' -  which to a lot of US appears RUDE - whether that was your intention or not.

Once again, sorry if it came off the way it did.  Before I even posted I went through numerous cakeboss posts and also searched profit margin markups.  I figured that since this is a location where many people use the software that someone would be able to help.  I didn't mean to sound insistent or demanding.  I was just bumping and didn't know that that was frowned upon.  Then it was followed up with the implication of me not being courteous and that's when I started taking offense.

If no one responds/helps then that's more than fine.  But jumping on here to simply post that I shouldn't be expecting a response because it has only been 3 hours?? Or saying that I'm entitled?

And thanks Enga,  I'm enjoying learning from this forum and I'm sure after this post, I can expect not to get answered in the future.

I think sometimes people who spend time on other boards don't always have a sense of how things work on this board or how fast or slow things move, so I'm inclined to give the OP the benefit of the doubt, especially since she's saying she meant no harm.

OP, it was early for a bump, but when you bump, maybe try a different phrase. I think "no one?" sounded like a complaint that you had no response to some ears.

My angst isn't directed to the OP - I totally agree that she meant no harm, but perhaps it would have been better to come back with a  "oops, sorry I am a bit eager to find my answer"  - instead of .....   'you were belittling me'

I also think Enga's contribution was to try and stir the OP up into thinking she had been 'wronged' and this only serves to INFLAME a thread  -  THIS is what gets my hackles up.

I agree and I think the other thing is very insightful. I had posted a response and then thought better of it.

ApplegumPam please don't think for me and the last thing I want to do is incense or inflame a thread. You answered sweetiecakes thread with angst before you even answered the original question. Geeze, she apologized twice. So please don't blame me for what she said in her reply.

Your "wage" would be considered an amount that you are going to withdraw from your business account and pay to yourself.  It therefore would take away from the business profit.  So you are correct in all that would remain in the business account in the example you described would be the overhead.  I hope this helps explain the example you have shown.  Chin up sweetiecakesb, I know how much thought and confusion can go into trying to figure out the cakeboss software and business ownership in general.  If you have any questions feel free to pm me.
