Hi,

I have a bride whose wedding I am doing as a gift, she wants three tiers, but is only having 50 to 60 people. How do I make a three tier cake for that few people without it looking like a mini-cake?? Any suggestions as to the cake sizes??

I don't want to make it bigger just to make it look good, as I am not getting paid for this, but I don't want it to look absurd either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Nancy

A 10' 8" and 6" would give you 74 servings.

A 9" 8" and 6" would give you 70 servings.

You could go with a 10" cake, 8" dummy, and 6" cake and that would feed 50.

AAbsurd? Lol...rubbish. I make three tier cakes for small serving amounts often.

4 7 10 gives 55 5 7 9 gives 53 6 8 10 is about 65 Can do that in a couple of 4 tier setups, and even 5 and 6.

Which serving chart do you use?

I agree 6 - 8 - 10 gives me 60 servings (I like larger pieces).  Then you place it on a stand - made out of Styrofoam - as in a 12" cake dummy and cover it with a one yard square of ironed fabric.  Scrunch up the fabric to look like the cake is sitting on a cloud and tuck the fabric edges in and she'll think you're a genius..........because the stand makes the cake look so much bigger.

AI made my own that basically splits the difference between Wilton and Earlene's.

Ahttp://www.pinterest.com/pin/20125529557500955/ This was only for about 50 people, if I remember correctly. I love taking small serving amounts and making the cake as "big" as possible.

AThank you all! I think I may go with the 5, 7, 9 and maybe a dummy underneath if she wants fondant. Nancy

Jaime, are any of those dummies on the cake you referenced? I have to do a 3 tier  wedding cake for 45 servings and want to make if taller, so thinking of adding a 4th.. Also are any of the tiers double barrel? Thanks,

you're right it is a mini cake--so i always advised the bride of that using the word petite too because the average bear cannot visualize this for themselves kwim? she might visualize a 14x10x6 and be shocked or something when she gets an oversized texas cupcake all stacked up--

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and was it just yesterday or the day before 'someone' said never again --heheheh face it you're a cake makin addict--
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

best to you
