Hello Decorators!

I am just getting my business from home up and running and am wondering what the going rate is for deliveries. I have decided that within a ten mile radius of my home is free but what do I charge after that per mile?

Not sure if there is a "going rate" per say and I'm sure everyone has a different method of calculating their fee.  I personally charge $1 per mile, there and back to locations outside of my free delivery radius but I mostly have pickups and don't do many deliveries so this works for me.  Gas, wear and tear on your vehicle, and how much you'll be delivering is something to consider when coming up with your rates.  Good luck!

Free delivery?  Wow, did you find free gas somewhere?

Not to mention that whenever you are out doing free deliveries, it is time you are not spending on a cake, where you would be earning money...

I don't charge to deliver within my town, which is about 3-4 miles round trip.  Outside of that, yes.  That's a business decision I'm ok with because like I said, I don't deliver very often to being with so a free delivery once in a blue moon is not going to break my bank.  I'm sure my customers appreciate it and that in itself is worth it to me if I get a sale over someone who does.

I charge $50 per delivery.  Makes no difference to me if it's literally across the street.  It takes time to set up a cake, pretty up the cake table for MY picture, etc.  My time is worth $50.

How far do you deliver for $50?

A20 miles max. But the vast majority of my deliveries were with 6 miles on so. Most were 2 mikes one way.

AThat is nice! A flat fee is good for an area like that. We have such a spread out area, I have delivered as far as 60 miles away. That is why mine is per mile.

A flat $3 a mile (one way only), from our front door no matter if its one character cake or 1,300 cupcakes.

I built a chart show cost to various city's, so the decorators can quote delivery cost just knowing the city.

I am in Orange CA
