AI need to redecorate (nah, more like just decorate) my living space and make it more conducive for a home bakery business. Right now, it just looks work-like with tables and shelves and boxes containing display cakes but I want it to look like a lovely hybrid between a cake studio and a cozy home, especially since I want to introduce sit-down cake tastings/consultations.

Any tips? Photos? Websites you would recommend? Storage ideas for the little tools & display cakes. I have a metal shelf with cake boxes, and different types of clear snap on plastic thingies bit they're different brands. I would prefer a more uniform look.

I'm okay with my place looking like I work in it but for the sake of customers I need to make it less worky-impersonal work space and more studio.

I have a living room along with a den which in my mind is supposed to be my fancy office but it just looks like a place where work gets done.

HELP!!!!

HHHEEEEEEEEEEELLP. Hehehe. I had to add that.

I don't know if ideas like these are what you ware wanting -- I could be way off base for what you are thinking!!

I'm always looking to better organize with cake stuff, homeschool stuff and kid stuff in general. I like designs that "hide" the mess so to speak, but fit into our home. I have an armoire that I want to turn into a cake supply "closet. Pretty on the outside, a beautiful piece of furniture, but functional also. Using a trunk for a coffee table that also provides storage..those kinds of things. Painting regular wood bookcases and covering plastic tubs in a pretty fabric to make them look less business/storage and more decorative. You could use fabric (or room dividers) to make a covering for your shelves to help them blend into your living space, but keep the easy access to your supplies. I don't have a specific site, I find a lot of organizing ideas on Pinterest. :-D

I think colours like wheats and caramel and chocolate browns are nice cosy colours- thems the plans for my house! How do you want to use the space? A working kitchen, a cake free office (ha in your dreams) and a living room come consult room just with display cakes?

Thanks! I just signed up. Pinterest was getting tedious trying to sift through all the stuff, plus cake studio kept bringing up a lot of cake stuff not related to interiors and such. I hope this site will make it easier to find what I need.

Absolutely what I have in mind. My living is space is a good size but sometimes being able to see everything is a problem-- like the different size plastic boxes. There are so many little knick-knacks used in caking and they just seem a lot. It just makes everywhere look busy and work-like. I love the idea of using fabric. Covering tables with fabric to hide those plastic shelves tucked under them would definitely help bring things together. Thank you for these ideas.

SWOON! I love that display. Yes I plan to turn my living room into a consult room because I don't use it for anything. ANYTHING. I don't watch TV so I don't sit in that room. I practically live on the computer which is in the office so the living room is just sitting idle. All that space needs to be put to use. I had imagined putting the display cakes in the office/Den but I could use the living room instead if it looks right.

Ohh! I LOVE that room. I really like the idea of using the center table (is it called coffee table?) as the table for the tasting rather than a dining table.

AYou can get coffee tables that have tops that raise up to dining height too.

ha ha I know how you feel! The guys in work* are always going on about some show-or-other... "you watch strictly come jiggling on ice last night?" "Erm..." I reply "...oh that dusty box in the corner? I think I saw a few minutes of the news on it last Thursday..."

*Still haven't plucked up the courage to ditch the 9-5
