I just delivered a cake that took me all night, where not one thing went right the first time, and i'm exhausted. It was as if I took on a wedding cake for my very first cake order. I mean NOTHING went right and I made so many mistakes!

 I have to applaud you who cover things in fondant. All I wanted to do was cover the damn board and I just couldn't get the fondant to roll out! After 4 tries my aching back gave in. 

The cake is lopsided and I smell like butter...

Will I ever reach the point where the cake in my head comes out on the board? AAARRGH!

Oh, sounds like a terrible night ella! Glad it's over. I know exactly how you feel. My cakes always look better in my head than in real life!
 

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear it. I have had those moments too. Trust me, it gets easier, especially with fondant. The learning curve is steep. 

no pics. you all have to be nice! the client liked it, but i'm disappointed in the chaos I created in my kitchen and the waste because I winged it on the carving instead of using templates, like i usually do. 

then, i didn't put cake boards on the bottoms of the carved pieces, no, I don't know why, and it made frosting them difficult-- until i cut the boards properly and added them!

there is a TON of carving waste and the cake was STILL way to big!--except the one that wasn't tall enough and I found myself baking another cake to torte and add. yeah, frosted it semi-warm :(

misplaced my small offset spatula, had to go to the store for another. found it within a few minutes of opening the new one.

tried to use parchment to cover the board, because I didn't want to use foil in this case.. uhm it's true, parchment sticks to nothing.

and i decided to try a new piping technique...FAIL. it looks like oddly placed balls.

my royal was runny.

the humidity in the house was too high.

i slipped in dripped buttercream.

got a crack down the center when the board arced,

left a buttercream thumbprint on the presentation board.

cut my finger with the craft knife making a special box.

*sigh*

You'll laugh about it tomorrow after a good nights sleep.  Slipping in dripped butter cream is a little funny :).... Sorry but it is 

oh man, you are making me hyperventilate....:) I've totally been there sooo many times. Or just when you think you FINALLY get it all together, that is when the thumb goes into the icing. And you just don't care...

AOh, when I am running around pannicking and finally get done, I always stab the cake with the box, or run my finger through it. And then the client is late, and I think of what else I could've done if I knew I was going to have a bit more time!!

You poor thing, glad it's finished/delivered/out of sight!!

I hate covering cake boards in fondant too, such a pain in the stinkin' neck. It shouldn't be that hard...right?!? It's always the "shouldn't be hard" things that get me!!

AI hate it when it seems everything seems to go wrong. Then I get the furrowed brow, and I guess I sound pissed off if you try to talk to me while deep in thought. Twice now, my boyfriend said, "it really seems like you hate doing that." Of course, then I do get mad, because I enjoy decorating (baking is more of my love), but I'm always learning a new technique or something, so I guess my intense look appears to be anger.

I had a day like that today, seriously everything that could have gone wrong did. I think I managed to pull it again at the end (or maybe it's that I opened a bottle of wine while I was finishing off so after the second glass I thought "yeah! that'll do!" - it's not a cake for a paying client I must add!). 

Hoping I will laugh when this is all a distant memory.
