I like the "favorite dishes" thread, but I wonder this: If you were offered your absolutely favorite dessert, but first you had to eat ___________, what would keep you from getting the dessert? To get this started, for me:

raw onions

liver

sea urchin roe

AI honestly can't think of anything I wouldn't eat, unless it was too spicy or contained nuts, eggs, or sunflower (allergies).

Liver done well can be excellent, take foie gras for example (except in California, where it's banned).

Sorry, no slight meant. My mother overcooked vegetables and then forced us to eat every damn thing on the plate. Hence, the brussel sprouts and asparagus.

That's so sad. I abhor overdone vegetables. My wonderful mother never did that, lucky me.

I abhor foie gras along with any other liver. I have no bad association with it, I just don't like the taste and texture.

Also can't stand oysters (bad association: they tried to feed me oyster stew in the hospital and I was there because I couldn't keep any food down!)

Ahmmm this is hard one. Oh nope I got it. The little purple curly squids or octopus that you can get at chinese buffet. I'd like to think that one day ill be brave enough to try it as I'd like to think ill try anything. But I had a chance and I chickened out. Theyre just so cute.

Will never eat liver, have never had to eat it either, thankfully.  I can't stand oysters...the thought of sliding those slimy things down my throat grosses me out...and I"m from New England, where people brag about eating them!

ANo fish or fish-adjacent foods. Calamari, urchin, lobster, etc. I'm weird that way. I'm pretty picky, so my list should be a mile long! ... I also dislike pretty much all cooked vegetables. Raw, I can eat all day.

AIf I had to eat a raw onion like an apple before I could have a cookie, I wouldn't have a cookie.

Cookies are my favorite; I have no willpower whatsoever when it comes to cookies!

Haha, I'm seeing my favourite things on here! Octopus, urchin, foie gras, oysters.. yummm :)

There are very few ingredients I dislike, but textures can really gross me out. Refried beans to me are one of the most vile things, just looking at them makes my stomach turn.

Top of the list are canned tuna, bananas, ketchup and tomato soup. (I know those aren't all 'dishes', but almost any dish can be made into something I would like, except maybe tater tot casserole.)

I also hate popcorn... a lot.

AI love refried beans, lol. I can handle calamari. Ketchup is a weird one. I love anything with vinegar.

AI am a super picky eater which is the main reason I'm not a chef! I only eat a couple of kinds of fish, no seafood at all. I don't eat lamb or pork except bacon, and I can't eat anything that has a 'mushy' texture like oatmeal, grits etc. I just won't eat something I can't stand, period. Keep your cookie, I can do without it!

Cooked turnips.  If they're young and tender I'll eat them raw, but never cooked.  I can't even get them past the center of my tongue, and my gag reflex kicks in.

I am also very picky. I absolutely cannot stand any of the following: octopus, liver, any kind of offal, oysters, shrimp if I have to peel them but strangely I am ok with them if they are peeled already, most other seafood, aubergine/eggplant, brussels sprouts, caviar, any unidentifiable foods (I mean when you can't tell what it is just from looking at it!). I'm sure I've left lots of things out. I love dessert, but I would absolutely go without if I had to eat anything I don't like. I'd go get an ice cream later on from a 24hr McDonalds hahaha.

AI actually really love vegetables, raw, cooked, boiled to death, Brussels sprouts are actually one of my favorites, after peas. If you said I could never eat fish or meat again I wouldn't be upset. But take away my veggies and we're done!

You're probably referring to either cilantro or shiso, both can have a soapy taste to some people.

I think it's also called "egg in the hole"..take a piece of bread, tear the middle out, place in skillet, crack an egg in the hole and fry until the egg is cooked...or not. My poor mom just wasn't the best cook, so one side was always completely charred, the egg was beyond hard-boiled and the other side of the bread was mush. thumbsdown.gif

AGotcha. I've never had that, but it doesn't sound terrible. Of course, cooked correctly, I'm sure it's not all that bad. I always disliked pork chops growing up because my mom always overcooked them. Not burned, just overcooked. She didn't know any better growing up herself, until we discovered Food Network. Now, I can cook a pretty mean pork chop. She's getting better:-)

ACilantro-tastes like soap to me. Liver-terrible taste & texture, plus the fact hat one of the functions of the liver is to filter out toxins. Eat the liver, eat the toxins. Creeps me out. Octopus, oysters, whole clams (I love finely chopped clams, mixed with breadcrumbs, onions, celery and baked in the clam shell. Yum!) Steak Anything really chewy, or creepy.
