I am making a wedding cake for a family member in a couple weeks and need some help.

I need to make a 3 tier square cake for 60 people.

What sizes are best?

What price would be best to charge for a basic wedding cake of that size?

3 tiers for only 60 people is going to be hard to do unless you do only 2" tiers.  (12,9,6= 60)

If you want 4" high cakes even 10, 8 ,6 is going to be more servings than you need - 75.

Pricing is very hard to suggest as it depends on where you live, what your skill level is etc.

I suggest somewhere around $3 a serving.  & not just the 60 they want but how many you actually get fromm the size cake you make so you're talking around $180 to 225.

if it is a little over 60, it wont matter, as long as it feeds 60.

I live in Canada. I'm not a beginner or awesome at it. But i can do piping and decorations.

AI wrote an article on my blog on how to price cakes, you can read it by clicking the Pricing Formula link in my signature below.

Without more information about your costs and your market it is impossible to suggest an appropriate price.

ADoes your family member expect to pay market rate, or are they expecting you to charge family member rates? If that is the case, it's entirely up to you what you charge. If I were to ask for payment from friends and family it would probably be just for ingredients and supplies like the cake boards, dowels etc. But that's me. I don't do cakes for strangers and I don't charge my friends, I offer to make it as my gift.
