I just baked in a 9x13 and tried to turn the cake out pretty much right after taking it out of the oven. It came out fine, then I stupidly decide to flip it back over onto something else to cool and it broke!!! Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
It didn't completely break or crumble up .. wonder if I can salvage it or should I start over .. just a pain because I even used a cake extender and that's so many ingredients wasted, ugh. It's for my nephew for tomorrow although he doesn't really even know I'm making, otherwise I'd be freaking right about now!
AIt should be ok as long as you haven't lost any parts to the floor. It should have been left in the pan for a little longer though. The crumb needs time to set before you mess with a cake. Just make sure it's put back together & leave it alone until it's cooled. Did you use another cooling rack or board when you flipped it? I always 'sandwich' my cake layer between either of those (cooling rack if cake is warm; board if it is cool) to flip.
Yes I flipped it between the two but it still broke .. it pretty much split down the middle length-wise. After it cools, then what? Should I put icing between the cracks ?
Yes, spackle it together with icing...works like a charm! I hate when cake breaks...
Ugh it's so frustrating, I had such grand plans for this cake!! LOL I'm trying to laugh about it.. I'm seriously considering baking another one right now.

AIt wouldn't hurt. I have broken cakes & just let them sit on the counter until I was ready to work with them. But chilling it will firm it up & might be easier to work with.
AI'm sure nobody other than you will know the cake broke. Glad things worked out for you so far :)
