I made a bunch of buttercream this weekend as I had a few cakes to do. I store my Buttercream in an old Fondant Bucket (simply satin) and I put the WRONG bucket back in the fridge! Is my buttercream ruined or can I still use it? My recipe consists of butter, crisco, powdered sugar and a little milk. It's been sitting in my kitchen since Saturday.
TexasSugar it LOOKS ok...I even tasted it and it TASTES ok to me. I used to use water instead of the milk and that was the main thing that worried me. How long do you think it will be good for left out?
I'm sorry cake mommie2012, I copied her thread to your page. I found it by looking up shelf stable BC.
But I leave my BC out all the time and I use milk too, sorry about the mix up.
Enga--I just noticed the differance! LOL Thanks for the reply! How long do you leave your BC out un-fridgerated?
I have left it out for a week with no problem. At school we made basically the same recipe in a 80qt mixer and it lasted for about a week. Most people in class preferred a couple of days old BC over freshly made BC because it wasn't as airy and full of bubbles.
THANK YOU! I was going to be so sad if I had to throw out all that product! I plan on making some cakes this weekend and I may just make a few extras- just to use up the icing! Generally If I put it in the fridge it lasts for almost a month (I have my fridge set pretty cold)
AAlittle off the topic but I wish I could talk everyone into using high ratio shortening rather than crisco, crisco is so gross and greasy. Anyways I heard and have read that sugar is a preservative but not sure if its ok to use your buttercream or not, I personally probably would still use it.

Well it is better to be safe and not sorry, I use HRS in all my BC. I would just look up shelf stable butter cream to be sure, I just thought that since she used water instead of milk she would be okay. Maybe the OP should take what you said into consideration just to be on the safe side.

kazita I dont no what happened to your most recent post but I did not take any offense to your response, I just noticed that the OP said she used to use water instead of milk. It has been about three days out of the fridge, so I just think she should er on the side of caution regarding the BC. Although I have used BC that has sat out much longer, I would rather she get more opinions so she can feel safe using it.
So cakemommie2012 maybe you can look up that old thread to see how long a recipe using those same ingredients can be left out just to be on the safe side. I hope you will be okay to use it, good luck, and thanks kazita.
Thank you both for your info. Adding the milk to the BC is the part that was worrying me the most. I tasted it and it still tastes fine as it was in a airtight container so I think I am going to use it and I thank you you all so much for the input!! I am so glad I have CC to turn to!
AYeah I don't know what happened to my post. I'm using my cell phone and when I first posted it it posted three times so I deleted two of them something goofy going on. Anyways back to her buttercream , I googled it and read a few things and posted a thread from cc in my last post. As the others in the thread that I posted most think it will be fine, I agree its probably fine to use
