Please review my Maggie Soettero wedding dress design http://cakecentral.com/g/i/3062170/a/3380814/my-instructions-were-that-the-bride-has-to-be-able-to-look-at-it-and-recognize-her-dress-by-maggie-soettero-it-is-a-loose-translation-but-i-think-they-will-be-very-happy-nonetheless-i-would-be-interested-in-peer-reviews-the-dress-is-arabella-by/
To be honest, I haven't even been baking long enough to price this. It is absolutely beautiful. I've seen prices for 3-D cakes from $5 - $8 per serving. Am I on the right track with that?
Sorry, BatterUpCake, I've been slammed in my day job and have a wedding cake this weekend. I will get caught up commenting next week.
No problem...not talking to anyone in particular. Was just hoping that someone could tell me if there wasaway to get the texture of the original dress
Batterup not sure if this would work. But you know the wilton stitch tool, just go over the fondant then pull apart it will make those tears at the parts the stitch tool didn't touch. Or if you really wanted to be detailed about it use a needle and go in a line then pull two pieces apart.
I'm sure there is probably a better way.
Paperlace first off your avatar is my favorite in all of CC land. lol
Will look into that. Not that I plan to do another one soon. The client is thrilled with the pics so I am not going to touch this one! Lol.The bridal shower is on the 4th so I won't know until then what the bride thinks.
OK, I just finished my fairy cake for my 7 yr old grand daughter who is in love with all things fairies. The one glaring flaw I am obsessed with is the fact that the blonde fairy's head tipped backwards when I set her to dry. To repair it would have broken all her hair and I wasn't willing to do that. So she is gazing stupidly into the sky! And one of these days I am going to garner the courage to try my air brush, but this time I just used petal dust.
Incidentally, I am loving Liz Marek's fondant. I use it all the time now for figures and it has even supplanted my use of gum paste in most things. Kids love to eat the figures and fondant is so much more palatable.

Have been playing with my airbrush. I'm a real beginner with it. Used 5 shades of green and brown. Edge at bottom not quite clean as originally had a totally different design in mind and then ran out of steam and so never covered the base. The side edges were straight, they just look crooked in the photo. Did twist the top leaves around a bit more a couple of hours later as felt they were too straight.
Any comments on design improvement etc. greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi
This is a great idea and I would love to have some feedback. Its nice to hear from friends and family that 'your cakes are great!' but I've never had anybody who knows what they're talking about tell me what's right or wrong. This cake is an anniversary one that I did for a friend a few weeks ago... http://cakecentral.com/g/i/3069724/default/sort/display_order/
I get told quite a lot that my cakes are 'different' and I'm never quite sure whether to take it as a compliment or not - I tend to if I'm feeling confident but if I'm not then I mostly think they mean amateurish. I make mainly for friends and family at the moment but harbour vague notions of selling them in the future so it would be great to hear whether you think people would pay for the sort of thing I can make.
Thanks anyway
I'm not sure I get it...why rabbits? What are the cans for...and the black cupcake?
Sorry - should have explained a bit more of the background in my initial message. The design incorporates a kind of joke family crest they made up based on their second names - something to do with rabbits and the flames of hell(!) - so that was the idea behind the hot rabbit. They were tins because it was their 10th anniversary and tin apparently symbolises that. A bit convoluted I know!
Oh, and the bit on top is supposed to be a kind of mushroom cloud and flames coming out of the tins.
