A Layer Cake With No Filling? Possible Without Falling Apart?

I have had a request to make a 9x13 chocolate cake that is "of good height" so I have made a two-layer cake with a large recipe. Cake layers turned out great, but the person is requesting NO filling in between layers, and there is no budging...not even a thin layer of buttercream, etc. If I just put the two layers together and frost the whole cake, do I run the major risk of it falling apart upon cutting? Both layers will be assembled together when frozen, so I'm wondering if just the thawing process will help adhere them? Any ideas?
ASometimes you just have to tell them what you can and cannot do. I flat out wouldn't do it, and a smudge of Buttercream isn't going to hurt them.
You tell them when it's not an option. "Hi, I know you don't want a lot of buttercream on your cake, but I'm going to have to put a smudge in there to hold the layers together. Thanks!"
It's still going to have buttercream on the outside right? It's not like they're allergic to the dang stuff! Anna is right, you just tell them what you can and cannot do.
It will definitely fall apart upon cutting, and possibly while carrying it! I can see the top layer go sliding off when they slow down at a red light! They HAVE TO BE STUCK TOGETHER. And freezing and thawing isn't going to cut it. Is it paid for? The worst they can do is cancel.
ACould you stick it together with piping gel or something clear like that that would sort if meld the cake layers together? I don't get the filling phobia. Did they say why?
