I got a little heavy handed while coloring some of my MFF. I would rather not have to shell out another $15(+) to buy some more fondant to help lighten the color. Is it possible to mix MMF into the dark MFF to help lighten the color or is it best to throw away over $40 of fondant and start again?

do you mean you would like to mix white fondant with the fondant you have coloured too dark?

I think that would work, rather than wasting the fondant (and money!)

I think you would just have to knead it well, otherwise it would be marbled colours,
hope this helps, birthday.gif

You bet, me too. In fact I combine the two recipes when I make my fondant. I use a double recipe of Rhonda's Ultimate MMF to one recipe of Michele Fosters fondant. When the gelatin mixture of Micheles is cooled, I melt the marshmallow part of the MMF, combine those two and add the powdered sugar.

Makes a nice fondant, has the mouth feel of MMF, which I like, and the pliability of MFF. I used to make the two separate, then combine them, but that is a lot of kneading. I was in a hurry one day, and tried combining the marshmallow and gelatin mixtures and it worked, so that is the way I do it now. Makes about 10 lbs of fondant.

That is absolutely GENUIS!!!!

Typically, I cover cakes with MFF and use MMF for accents because it's sturdier and when I run low, I mix the two and use it for both purposes....I also mix the two types when I need a color that I can achieve by kneading other colors together.

Thanks, shaekae81 icon_biggrin.gif Isn't it amazing how you can use those odd bits of colored fondant to make other colors?? I very seldom throw any fondant away, you can always make black..

i'm a total cheapskate and refuse to throw away any fondant! LOL Not that making it is extrememly expensive, but the time invested surely is! Most of my browns come from mixed bits of other colors.

Thank you very much! I mixed MMF and MFF in a 1:1 ratio and I think I like using the mixture better than either one of the individual products. I really appreciate all the comments!

You are welcome, and I find the same thing, I like the combined product better than either one alone. It is the best of both worlds.

Brilliant. I have just been reading the recipes for both MFF and Rhonda's Ultimate MMF and I was just thinking that I needed to make a batch of each, taste, play, and then try mixing them together. I was really wondering if I could use MFF as the fondant "secret ingredient" in Rhonda's recipe, but it looks like you already went one step further and save me a ton of time!
