Morning all

In the words of the wise Pam Ayres......I wish I'd looked after me teeth.......:-(    My old tooth has bedded in now the injection has worn off but it feels a bit big.  I can't have it adjusted as it is unlikely to end well.

Seen a conversation on FB regarding freezing iced (BC) cupcakes.  Has anybody done that?  I have a busy week next week and my daughter comes home on Friday and wants to start decorating cupcakes - but I am working that day so all a bit short on time.  It would be good if I could freeze.

How was parents' evening Jo?  Good luck with the biatch today.

Kathy

Oh Jo - just seen your post - must have been posting while I was typing.  Yes - everyone is younger than me now....if there is anybody older than me (doctors, dentists) I get worried!!

Just be yourself - as I said before, she will have "form" somebody like that will always have upset other people higher up the ladder.  If she's really bad we'll all come and sort her out.

Lizzy, are those forms you created (xls to pdf) for customer order forms? Do they email it back to you all filled in?

Kathy, I'm not surprised a tooth could cost that much. I've heard of implants- v v expensive! I have to go to the dentist as I have some gum disease and I'm trying my best to stop it's progression. It means 3-4 visits to the hygienist (hate hate hate these sessions), and after brushing my teeth have to do some interdental brushing EVERY night with corsodyl. If you haven't tried corsodyl yet- it's disgusting. The toothpaste makes me gag it was that bad. I threw it in the bin and managed to find some gel. Much more tolerable. The only way I can tolerate the teeth cleaning with the hygienist is to bring an ipod and have music blasting into my ears just to take away the discomfort and to drown out that horrible screeching drill.

Ok that was a bit of ramble-rant...

Sorry never frozen cupcakes- can't see the harm. You could always bake the night before and just wrap it all up in cling film, then decorate the next night?

Morning all

Jo glad to hear parents evening went well, I know what you mean about the teachers some of them look like they have bearly finished school themselves. Hope work goes ok today and she's not to hard on you, if she is like Kathy said we'll all come and sort her out and she doesn't want to mess with the uk bakers clan lol. Congrats on the anniversary.

Lizzy how clever are you I'd be be feeling smug to.

Kathy hope your tooth is feeling better, all that money for teeth why do they make it so bloody expensive.

I haven't frozen cupcakes but have wondered about it myself, I wonder if the paper cakes would peel off when they were defrosting.

Petitecat that sounds awful no wonder you hate going, I haven't use the corsodyl toothpaste but have used the mouthwash and that is disgusting to. I need to make a dentist appointment myself I had a text a couple of weeks ago saying I was due for a check up. She cleaned my teeth last time and the are really sensitive since.

Roxy, I had a dentist once who made my teeth sensitive every single time I went. He was lovely, but the heaviest hands ever! I switched to someone else who had hands so light like a feather. Lovely chap too. I loved him so much that I carried on seeing him even after I'd moved. It was a 1 hr 20 min round trip every few months LOL

Aw nanny, poor you. Talk to the dentist about your nervousness. Isn't there something they could do about it?

Have to say though, that when my wisdom tooth was taken out it was the best thing ever. Darned thing was giving me problems! It hurt to brush it and food kept getting stuck behind it. I even braved the needle to numb my gums (hate needles even more). My daughter thinks I'm a wuss. Last time we both had jabs for our holidays, I felt sick and looked sick. Nurse said 'are you ok' while I tried not to BE sick LOL. Ran out the door for fresh air while daughter laughed behind me. Kids...

AMorning cakey peeps :-)

Oh Jo, deep breath, head up, be the bigger woman. Or offer to make tea and wipe the dirty dishcloth around the rim of her mug; you know, whatever gets you through the day :-D

Is everyone in trouble with teeth? Big hugs to all of you! That's my one plus health wise, I've (touching all available wood) never had a filling/extraction etc.

I've frozen cakes and bc before Kathy, but not together. I don't see why it would be a problem apart from maybe the wrappers as jean said. I also freeze leftover batter in cupcake portions too and cook from frozen if I want a little something for the boys.

Yes, they can fill them in Jean, but it's checklists rather than order forms, so less about the cake, more about the logistics like venue date and time, whether they have ensured a sturdy table will be there, contact name at the venue, is a stand/knife required, that sort of thing. They can then fill them in nearer the time and email back so everything is confirmed by then. It's my little security blanket :-) Sadly, despite how happy I was yesterday (and admittedly still am now), I should own up that part (most) of it was just trying to remember what hubby had shown me ;-)

I have a question... My youngest (12) came to me yesterday asking if he could take £50 out of his account, but couldn't tell me why. Our anniversary is next week, so 2+2 duly put together, I told him that I would feel awful if he spent that amount of money on us. He kept going on but wouldn't tell me what it was for, so I said would he tell hubby what it was.

I've found out this morning that he wants to take us out for dinner for our anniversary. Bless him. I can't have him do this, but he's adamant he wants to. Any thoughts?

Oh, btw, we'd already decided to stay in and not spend anything so using his money then feeding it back to him somehow would kind of negate that :-)

Awww Lizzy that so sweet of your son to want to do that, Angel saved up and put a fiver in my birthday card and I feel awful keeping it so have to treat her so she gets it back on way or another. Maybe if you can't persuade him you could talk him into getting some pizzas or something in from the supermarket or cooking something ( with help from someone ) for you and have a family fun night in so he is not spending so much money and you don't have as much to replace.

Depends how much it is Roxy! Looks great and solves all the support problems because they are food safe. She says you can put it in the dishwasher, but at the end of the day the customer gets it, so we don't actually get to keep it. However if the price is right, and it equals the cost of a cake drum and supports that you'd have to buy to make the frame, then it's worth getting for tall or complicated cakes.

Petitecat I would only be using it for family so would get it back but like you said it depends on the price when it's released if I get one, hopefully it will be reasonable as she said you can buy different boards etc so they may do a starter pack and extra add ons. With customers maybe you could take a deposit for the frame and they return it within so many days to get get their money back. It is launched in two weeks so we don't have long to wait before we get an idea on price.

Lizzy... hmm had to have a think about that. If I were in your shoes...If he's really adamant, it would be difficult to turn him down without upsetting him. Let him cook you something like Roxy says. If he can't do that, I'd let him take you out. It would make him very happy to do something special for you. End of the day it's his money to spend and his decision, which he is now starting to make at a tender young age.

Not me Roxy. I'm going to wait for the Manchester one because I'm 20mins away from the venue. Birmingham is a long drive for me- 1.5-2 hrs! I'll be patient and wait for March 2015 and go to that one!

Hah! This cake is for my friends and us. We go to their house to go trick or treat every year. So will be bringing sweets to contribute to the sweet pot, and a cake for us to devour afterwards as a thank you because we kind of 'borrow' their street lol

Hi folks

Some advice please. I'm going to try (work permitting) to do the skull cake from the Sugared productions tutorial (Basically its a skull with LED lights in the eye sockets sitting on top of a bubbling cauldron.) The skull is made using the Wilton Skull tin but I'm at work all week so I was wondering what you thought of doing the skull in advance this weekend with RKT so that I then just have the simpler elements i.e. the cauldron made of cake to do Thursday/Friday. I've worked with RKT before and think it is disgusting to eat (I hate marshmallow but each to his own) and so sticky not particularly easy to work with. So to my question, do you think I could substitute some of the marshmallow with chocolate and still get a firm enough shape ( I was thinking more on the lines of the rice krispie/cornflake crispies we used to make as kids?

Lynne - I love RKT - I had never made it until the engagement cake - I found it so moreish that I had to stop myself and throw away the cut offs!  Loving the sound of the LED lights and can't wait to see it.  The only skull on here in RKT was made by M4rvel and it looked amazing but he said it was quite heavy in weight I think.  I have no idea if chocolate would work - I assume so.  I would offer to do a test batch for you but I'm watching my bloody teeth at the moment!

I am going to try to freeze some cupcakes at the weekend.  I will let you all know if the wrappers come off!

Tiddy!!!!  My balls are here!!!!  Yayy - they are great!  Thank you :-D  (Was I your first customer?).

Lizzy that is such a lovely thing for your son to do.  It just shows you what a great parent you are.

Kathy
